towing capacity of older trucks?

i'm trying to find towing capacities of older trucks. e.g., the newer fords v8's are 5.4L and 6.0L and the older ones are 5.8L.

i am looking at a 30' enclosed and want to use a 5.7L chevy or 5.8L ford in the 1994-1998 range. basically a 3/4 ton extended cab, 4x4 w/ short bed.

I don't have any specifics, but that seems like quite a bit of trailer for a 5.7 or 5.8 motor to pull. These are basically small block 302's right?

As long as you don't plan on towing up many hills, I'd say OK, but just remember, when the trailer and the contents out-weigh the towing vehicle, your asking for trouble.

Load leveling hitch? Electric brakes? Slope nose trailer?

All of those would help as well.

5.7L GM is 350 cid and 5.8L Ford is 351 cid.

Underpowered, probably, for a 30' box but you should be OK for weight with the equalizer hitch. Trailer brakes are required equipment for a trailer that heavy, even if you're towing in Kansas.

Be ready when you get to the pump; you won't get double digit fuel mileage.

I'd seriously consider a one-ton diesel or turbo diesel rig if you'll encounter any hills. I tow a 20' box around New Mexico and Colorado with a '97 F350 PSD and wouldn't consider anything less for our terrain.
