Could you post pics/list of the parts you used and where you aquired them? What are you using for the vent hose connector? I'm assuming you cut a hole in the gas can and used some kind of threaded adaptor with a gasket. Then an elbow with the hose clamped. Beats the hell out of buying a expensive dump canister.

The key part is a 3/4 NPT poly "tank fitting" by Banjo Corp. You'll need to find a local dealer (try the Banjo web site) - mine was an agricultural fertilizer company.

They are supposed to make one with a Buna-N fuel-resistant gasket, but I couldn't find them locally and ended up with Viton seals which should be fine.

The rest of the parts are poly NPT-barb fittings from Home Despot.

I drill out the vent breather with a 3/8" drill bit on all my gas cans. By doing this, they will dump much faster too.

so then what do you use to cap the bigger hole? Is it still small enough to fit under the cap that it comes with?

It works exactly like Big Boy dump cans. That tube is just a vent, the same size as the fuel outflow and on top of the column of fuel rather than at the bottom. You turn it over and no glugging or bubbling - the fuel just drains.

I don’t know if it would work for you, but I recently timed how long it takes me to dump 5 gallons (of diesel) through the “standard issue” US Army Fuel can using the available “nozzle” (Donkey D**K in military terms) that locks on the can. and it was about 30-35 seconds. These parts are all available at any Army/Navy surplus store and the new cans are plastic, not metal.

Now obviously this vehicle has no unleaded restrictor and I don’t know anything about how much better or worse diesel would flow than gasoline but I thought that 30-35 seconds was impressive.

Just a casual observation at work this week. (Yea I can’t wait to get back on the track)

Years ago, when I first got involved in endurance racing (Entropy Racing), the team owner, Charlie Greenhouse, had something that looked almost exactly like that. They worked very well. I've seen others that have ball valves on both the fill and vent lines, which lets you store fuel in them. Also, since none of the cars we ran were still street legal, we removed the restrictor from the filler neck, which allowed for a larger fill hose. I don't remember the exact fill time, but I believe it was on the order of 30 seconds.

NASA enduro rules limit you to 2 5 gallon containers. Those were advertised at holding 6+ gallons, in addition to pouring faster. Jerry Kunzman declared them illegal following last year's 25 hour event. I can't find a refrence ot it in the rule book though...
