Default Escort GT engine shuts off

    Any help with this one?

Twice last weekend at Summit point my engine shut-off at speed.

Situation - Right hand turn & inability to stay off the outside rumble strips.
--> Engine died immediately when the rumble strips where encountered. Turn 1 and turn 10.

Engine re-fired and ran without problems after a few minutes both times.

    Stock 2nd Gen 1.8L.

Dave--Almost sounds like you tripped the roll-over safety switch, but it would not have restarted. It is a loose electrical connection somewhere...but the "where" is the problem.

Start with the ignition switch, then ignition, then fuel pump wiring finally check the connection to the computer (and every thing else.

Good luck. You may never find the culpirt!

Maybe the rollover switch is just messed up and going back in on its own after a period of time. You could always check it easily. Its located on the drivers side rear wheel well arch. It has a little round button on top to push back in if it is popped up. Maybe the spring inside or whatever is messed up?

    Doug & Joe,

Thanks for your help. After the 1st time I thought it might be the fuel cut-off too. I put two snap rings in on top of the button. Next I'm going to re-wire the thing out just to be sure.

Joe I'll have the fuel pump checked next, or you may be right about the computer, maybe it's getting scambled temporarily. I know there are only a handfull of EGT's out there so the chances are this may not have happened to anyone else.

Safety thing yes, pain in the ass, yes. I pulled mine out and rewired everything through a whole new fuel pump setup and works wonderful. I run an EGT out of Cen Div, come on up and play some time. I'd like to test mine out against someone elses some day.

    Thanks for all the help.

I found the problem with the help of a rubber mallet, tapped lightly of course.

It was in the fuse box under the hood, when tapped the fuel injectors began to shut down.

    It was a loose connection.

Jericker, I hope to accept the challenge someday!
