240SX exhaust

I am going to re-do the exhaust on my ITA 240. I want something quiet, but fast. Is there is a good off-the-shelf exhaust system that is quiet and gives the best HP/torque numbers? There is enough after-market tuners for these cars, I was hoping someone had some real experience.

The aftermarket actually avoids this engine. Very few aftermerket parts go beyond a mild 'street" type description. It prefers the SR20DET swaps, etc. I have a couple off the shelf headers and have had the best luck/numbers with a modifying one from S&S. It is a 4 into 1 instead of a 4-2-1 design. I've been looking at these as well... The 4 into 1 design seems to lend itself well to adding a proper merge-collector and adapting to the rest of the exhaust...

If anyone has any dyno info or other information on the "correct" size for the rest of the exhaust system, and wouldn't mind divuldging the info... I'm preparring to replace the entire system myself, and would love to know what seems to work and what doesn't with the KA24DE (1997) in IT trim... (Wolf computer, etc...)

1 3/4" primaries slipped over 1 5/8" runners connected at a good merge collector exiting through a 3" pipe seems to work well. I've heard some people running this combo without a muffler, running under 103db.
The trick is primary and runner length, and getting it all to fit around the steering gear and under the car.

Jim, if you read this, Scottie hooked me up with a bunch of goodies; but he only sent me one M22-AN10 for the cooler :-( I'm shooting for a Holloween test day at Moroso.

I have to run a flowmaster one chamber muffler to make sound. This past Labor day at Road Atlanta (a track which I am normally fine at) I was running 103dbs all day. I have chased different exhaust setups trying keep it under 103. These big four bangers are loud (at least to sound tech equipment). I run a custom header with a 3" exhaust pipe.

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like this is just a loud motor that needs a little tuning to get below sound. I'm sure it will, just need some fabrication (as opposed to buying a complete setup - I got lazy with the Spec Miata setup I guess).

It isn't too hard to do. Most any local muffler shop can order mandrel bent 2 1/2 or 3 inch elbows from Walker (the dynomax people). I used 4 30 degree(45's will work also) and 2 90 degree bends, a couple short peices of pipe and the mufflers we discussed. I welded mine together, but these pipes are slip fit and can be clamped just as easily.

i have a jic header back exaust on my 89 ka24e. the 60mm piping is pretty nice sounding. i have a link to a sight that you can hear it on. but it is down right now for some reason. i will still post it and maybe it will come back up soon.
