    Default Source for L26 pistons for 260Z ?

    Hi folks,

    I hope everybody's race season has started out well.

    I have a friend who sells imported parts for Japanese-engined forklifts and needs a set of .040 overbored but otherwise stock pistons for a 260Z and says none of his regular sources, domestic or otherwise, can help him out...says he can get L24 or L28 easily, just no L26. Anyone know of a good source for these?

    HI Greg,
    240 pistons are the same....the larger displacement comes from different crank/rods.

    Dadblurnit! That's what I thought...(actually I didn't know if they were the same as the 240 or the 280) but I was told "nope, they're not the same as either".

    Greg, Be careful here.

    The 73 240z piston has 2 valve releif's and goes .030 positive deck due to the E88 cylinder head have a recess for it.

    If you use the early flat top 240 you will loose at least a half point of compression you can't get back by cutting the head. I had a very hard time getting the early pistons this winter bu there seamed to be plenty of the 240/260 pistons at the warehouse. Call me on monday at 503-650-9548 and I will get the information for you.

    Yes,Joes correct..73 wouldn't be a legal replacement due to the eybrows in the piston.Pin height could be different as well.
    Max compression is 9.0 for 260? May be hard to reach with "correct" 88 head.

    Thanks guys. I'll call Joe Monday. I think this is for a street car so legality won't be an issue, but this.....

    ....just made me curious. Does that mean that if I had a stock 260Z, I'd have to lower the compression to run ITS? That doesn't seem to make much sense. This isn't really important to me as I don't have a Z at all but I was just wondering.

    Greg,
    260s are listed as 8.8 stock compression..I thought it was lower. But would allow 9.3 to 1 squeezin ratio in ITS. My guess is that with larger chamber size of later 260 E88 head the 73 pistons will better serve your purpose due to the .030 coming out of the block.

    It is really to bad about the 260 because even with the crappy carbs it could be a pretty good ITS car except like many other things 200 lbs for 200cc's was way of the mark. The car looses 3ths of a point of compression has crappy carbs and gains 200lbs to race against a 240.
