    Default E36 motor oil

Spent the weekend at NHIS SCCA drivers school. I put around 250 miles on fresh Red Line 40wt. First time car has seen anything other than BMW motor oil. Engine was noisy. I was told by another BMW racer that the viscosity of Red Line was not suited for engines w/ Vanos. He recommended Amsoil. Anyone one out there tips w/ any info on this would be appreciated. Car is a 94 325is.

    thanks,

I would run what is the stock viscosity for you BMW motor...or one grade higher. I belive 5w40 amsoil european formula would work excellent. Amsoil is incredibly tough stuff.

We've always used Kendall 5w-40 full synthetic in the M50's. seems to work great.
