I was in a rush when I typed this. Let me rephrase my question. The rule book says an m42 318 is legal. Despite variations in the motor and electronics and others, is the m44 classified in the same class? The M44 has a longer stroke and hydraulic lifters. The result is a slightly shorter rev band ~6600 rpm and an increase in mid range torque. Is there any reason why this car would not be legal at all? Are all cars eligible to race or are their exceptions?

Currently the only engine listed in the GCR for the E36 318i/is/ti is with a bore/stroke of 84 x 81. You will need to search the fastracks for this season to see if that has been updated. Otherwise I would suggest a call to the national office to get clarification and/or apply to have either engine included in the vehicle specs.

The 318ti Sport (96 - 99) with the M44 was covered in FasTrack (as was the Z3 1.9 with the M44), so there is precedent for another spec line to be added for the 318i/is.
