E46 M3

I have a daily drive E46 M3 that I am hoping to convert to a club racer. I noticed that the only listing for the E46 is in T1. I believe that class has to retain the interior. Racing with a leather interior is not my idea of a race car.

Is there any other class for this car?

Not in Improved Touring, unless you wanted to build it for ITE. Contact your local region for details on that, all divisions are different in the rules.

And no competitive class. You can buy a winning ITS 325 for less than you paid for your E46 though and race it in a very competitive field.

I have thought about the E30 325 for racing. What do you think of that car?

I wonder why there isnt a class for the E46 M3.....SCCA must be run by Vette and Audi owners ;-)

Depends in what class. 325 or 325i or 325e? A 325i won't win in ITS. A 325/325e could be a good ITA car, depending on where you are.

And don't forget the Mazda factory - I think they hold a fair share of SCCA also... (flame on!)

e30's can also be run in other venues than scca it. there is a spec e30 series on the east coast that is growing and the e30 325i practically has it's own class in bmw club racing, kp.

not as fast as an e36 or e46, but e30's are cheap and a lot of fun to race. wanna buy one?

Mazda....when you start racing one...

Just a plain old 325. Dealer has one with a cage in it waiting for a new home.

When I watch at Limerock I never see many BMW's. Lots of Honda though. Is Honda the dominate car? I would really love to race a BMW but would not like to be the guy in last all the time.

E30 325....has a nice ring to it. Anything I would pay attention to when shopping? I hear lots of people telling me to buy sorted. But I would prefer to build myself.

Advice?

I have often thought an E30 325 would do well in ITA. It may be difficult keeping up with the Honda/Acura's but may be worth the effort.

Shameless Plug Follows:
My sponsor has an E30 track car available immediately. The car was built last year and has been rented at a couple of BMW DE's but has not been raced or damaged. It is complete and ready for schools or racing and has an SCCA IT logbook. It can also be easily prepped for BMW CR Prepared. It was designed as a school car with passenger side race seat, 5 point harness, and Nascar type door bars. Grouppe N Suspension with Bilstein shocks. The car was built similar to my successful E30 ITS car #22. C-Tech has built my prior E30 ITB and ITS cars and my new this year E36. The E36 finished 4th in
NARRC and NERRC. Asking $11,000 obo.

Around the country, E36s can romp. Lime Rock isn't typical, I guess. I think you would be a shoe in ITS with a good E36.

Whatever you do, don't turn that spectacular E46 of yours into a racer just yet!

They told me that the E46 325 is now approved for IT.

James probably knows for sure, but I think it was that interim model E46 323 that got approved for ITS at over 3,000 lbs. They made it for one year only I believe, in a four door.

The only E36 in IT is the '99, which I think came out late '99. 3000 pounds min weight. An expensive build unless you happen to have a body in white...

1999 - all 4 Doors were E46, 2D and convert are still E36. Those come out in 2000. The 323 was a 2 year model.

At even weight, I would have a hard time wanting to build one of those for ITS. The electronics are a killer, as well as a couple of other small items. Not even considering the price. But if anyone is itching to do it...
