Default High revs and car breaks up

Second maintenance question - when the '89 2nd gen get up to 7500-8,000 rpm in 4th it breaks up a little. No real loss of power, but folks are telling me it sounds like I'm hitting a rev limiter and the car is set at 10,200 - it's not hitting a limiter.

I've got new plugs, ground looks good. Time for new wires? Suggestions? I have not put a timing gun on it - wouldn't know where to set it. (don't own a gun either)

Car runs strong, but I think this will only help if I can solve it. And prevent any future trouble.

I have had my car "hit the limiter" well below what the chip said.

If you actually have a limiter, it too could be suspect; just remove it and see.

If not, there are many things to investigate, including fuel delivery.

    Regards.

    Just a thought...
Are you sure that the tach is not in error, not the chip?

I've had the tack on some cars contribute to the misfire when the ground for the tach was of poor quality.

    Good racing.

Thanks guys - this one may be for a shop to fix. Just too many things to run down for my level of skill.
