    Default Where to buy Koni Race shock

    Sorry if this is such a newbie question.

    My 1987 Rx-7 has the Mazdaspeed Motorsports Stage 2 kit (I think made by AWR) and one of the front struts is blown/leaking. Anyone know where to buy one? I believe the Koni part number is 8610-1149. I know Truechoice supposedly has them. Anyone else? Or does anyone know the price to get both fronts rebuilt and custom valved? What specs do I ask for? I am a newbie and just doing open track events right now.

    Koni, Lee Grimes, 1-859-586-4100, X 316

    Lee is a real nice & easy to talk to guy. Ask him everything you think you might like an answer for.

    I also had a Koni 8610-1149 blow the top seal last fall. I ended up buying two new fronts from Mazdaspeed at $ 187.50 each. Mazdaspeed was also the only vendor that had them in stock at the time.

    I bought the two rear's from WWW.SHOX.COM as they had a better price than anyone else, they usally have the fronts but were out of stock at the time as well as Truechoice.

    As for rebuilding the strut it is usally cheaper just to buy new, as the labor cost adds up quickly

    The Koni's that the tire rack sells will not fit inside the Mazdaspeed strut housing's ( made by AWR )

    The Koni 8610-1149 is a race strut that will handle higher spring rates. I ordered the ones from the Tire Rack and had to return them.

    Here the Koni part numbers for the Mazdaspeed Stage 2 kit .

    FRONT = KONI 8610-1149
    REAR = KONI 8241-1050 sport

    I was going to post about the tire rack price but too, but you also answered my question. Unfortunately, I cannot buy from Mazdaspeed Motorsports because I don't race my car. I did search online and came up with one place:

    http://www.carshopinc.com/product_info.php...32660/8610-1149

    Anyone order from this place before?

    It also seems like a couple people have had the same problem as me. My shocks have about 10 track days and the right front sprung a leak. I figured I just had a bad seal from the factory. Are you supposed to trim the bump stop that is provided?

    One more question. Do the bilsteins that ISC sell fit into the AWR strut housings?

    Thanks for all the help!

    actually I think they will sell you race parts, they are only allowed to sell stock parts at to authorised racers.
    call tim and ask
    also autocrossers can join too, not just racers

    ((Anyone order from this place before?))

    I have not purchased anything from them so I have no idea. I checked some of the prices last fall and shox.com had the fronts for $149 each, which at the time was cheaper than anyone else.

    The KONI'S on my car were about three years old so I think that you might have just got a bad one.

    I installed the bump stops just as they came from KONI, so I do not think that was the problem.

    I called ISC last fall because I was thinking about going with the Bilsteins also, after talking to them I found out that the Bilsteins mount in a modified stock strut housing. So they will not be a direct replacement, But ISC said they have stock strut housings that they can modify and also revalve the Bilsteins to work with your springs.

    Give ISC a call or visit them at http://www.iscracing.net

    I have a Bilstein setup that uses the ISC mounts. They are a modified stock housing that is basically threaded at the top for an AWR cap. Don't know if the length of the tube is the same as the actual AWR mount but it's obviously very similar.

    I love the Bilsteins! Huge improvement over the Konis we had on the car before. They are much more consistent through out a race. No problems with them so far either.
