At the SARRC Race at Sebring this past weekend we found a problem with the rear suspension on the 1st gen RX-7s. The brackets welded to the rear end housing that the shock and the lower control arm mount to are subject to failure due to the side loads of cornering, especially if you run a panhard bar. We had one bracket break completely and the other bracket had started to break. All 1st gen drivers need to carefully check these brackets and reweld and/or strengthen them to prevent an major failure in the rear suspension. We got lucky and felt it before it broke completely. Our cars are getting old and we need to keep all 1st gen RX7 drivers aware of metal failure problems we encounter.
