    Default Rear shock/speaker housings

    Hi Guys and Gals. Ive just made the jump from pistons to rotors, in that I purchased a 2G RX-7 GL shell for ITS. Actually, today, I found and bought a second car...GXL, which the first on is not.

    Question: Both have sheet metal housings spot welded to the top of the structure for the purpose of housing speakers. Is/are they on all cars, or only this model? I've seen ITS RX-7's without them, but both of mine have them.

    I'm looking for the car to be on the track sometime next season, so I'm just researching now.

    Chris Wire: I tried to e-mail you a few weeks ago, and I'm wondering if it actually got thru?

    Thanks in advance for any information any of you might offer the "new guy".

    Everyone has their own take on what is legal or not, but my interpretation of the GCR leads me to believe they can't be removed.

    I.E. Nothing tells you you can remove them, so they can't be removed.

    Paul's right. They are not an option on the cars, the ones you saw were actually removed. So, since they are not optional, they must remain.

    Yes, I finally got your email last night. I fried my modem card and just got it replaced. Try downloading and weeding through 600+ emails from "[email protected]"!!! Not to mention SPAM!!! If I wasn't so self-assured, I'd think I really DID need a larger penis, bigger breasts, more Viagra, a home-based, money-making business and more Norton Anti-virus software, since all my emails seem to tell me I do!

    I will try to put down some thoughts and get back to you ASAP. Thanks for your patience.

    Phew...I always thought big brother knew more about me than I know about myself, and I was afraid to ask anyone else, for fear they'd say, "Bigger breast emails??? Never get 'em!"!

    Of course, if big brother and the marketing gurus out there in cyberspace DID know a little about me, they would send me emails like "20 MORE horsepower for your ITA rotary engine! Easy to do at home, takes seconds!! Click HERE for all the info!"

    I bought a car in '95 that had run in the NE and had the housings removed because the cage was welded to the strut mount. I ran that configuration for 7 years, incl. 2 MW Div. championships, and no one ever said a thing about it. I don't have the car or a GCR anymore but I was thinking there was a general exception re attaching cages that arguably would allow it.

    That arguement may fly with some tech people and other competitors, but I don't believe it meets the letter of the rule, nor would it hold up under appeal, IMO.

    The cage can legally be welded to the strut towers with the speaker housings in place, making removal unnecessary and illegal. I know, because I've done it.

    My car had the same configuration when I bought it (still does). I interpret ITCS 17.1.4.D.10.a.4 "Main hoop braces may be mounted at the rear shot mounts/towers or suspension pickup points." to allow this.

    Yes the rule allows the attachment point to be at the shock towers, but doesn't allow (IMO) the towers to be removed to do so. Nor is it necessary to remove them to install the downtubes in that fashion, as I have shown above.
