Default Places to stay near Gimli?

    J. Nelson...There's at least 3 of us heading out to Gimli on June 29-30.

Email me off line. We're looking for close places to stay to Gimli. General info...etc.

    Bye for now.

Out of curiousity (as I'll be there), are you guys spectating or racing? If racing, what cars are you running?

    I race at Gimli aswell...
You can camp at the track, but the weather at gimli can go from warm to subzero in the blink of an eye. I recall last year's july long weekend race, I was wearing ski pants, two sweaters and a parka and still not as warm as I would like.
There's the viking inn, which is attached to the bar, and the resort, which is much more costly, but nicer.
Jon will have a better idea of places to stay, as I'm close enough to go home for night.

There's three of us coming out from Alberta. One car in IT-2, and two in IT-1. We expect to be arriving Friday evening. It sounds like there may be a couple more from Saskatchewan coming out also.

If you wrote a book, "Where to Stay in Gimli", it would be pretty short.

There is ONE ROOM for Saturday at the Lakeview Resort in Gimli. The resort is nice, has a poll and hot tub and sauna. It is a little on the pricey side.

If you are on a budget, and are travelling with a bunch of guys, you could try the Misty Lake Lodge. It's got some sorta strange history, it started out as some sorta commune for Native Canadians or something, built by the Gov't, I think. Shared washrooms, but it's not too busy. Cheap, cheap, cheap. $40 a night or something for the cheapo rooms. Beats camping.

There's the Viking, apparently it's OK, I don't have the number, though.

There is also the trailer park motel, which is a lot nicer than it sounds, and very new. Pretty expensive as well, but very nice.

I think that covers it, otherwise, Wpg. is only an hour away, and has plenty of places.

I can answer any other specific questions, only too glad to help.

Allen, who's coming out? What car/class?

    Allen:

I just saw your "e-mail me off line" request. Is there anything else you need to know?

    Matt:

Are you a spectator or racer? Have we met? I'm bad with names, forgive me if we have.

due to my poor social skills, you've never been introduced. Matt is the stockier of my two regular pit helpers, seen here after being recruited for radio duty at corner station 3

    Ahah!!

How could I forget the MUG!!!!!??

Pleased to meet you Matt! (And thanks, Chris!) Is that Matt02 or whatever with a BMW who hangs at the WSCC message board? When is he gonna get it out to the track?

I might be giving a few "fun rides" friday/sat this weekend, my Dad's coming from Baltimore for the weekend. If Matt needs inspiration, maybe a few laps in the right seat of #42 will help? He has to leave the mug behind.

BTW - Are the GC's gonna make it on your car? That's gonna be SECONDS a lap!

Cars coming out that I know of are:

    Brad Musat (IT-2) Escort GT
    Ken Staples (IT-1) 300 ZX
    Allen Brown (IT-1) RX7 GSL-SE

You folks are going to have to show us a good time since the local track knowledge is in your favour...Us poor Alberta boys are going to be playing catchup all weekend...

    See ya next weekend.

Hey Jon. Yes, I'm 'matt02', one and the same... as for my car making it to the track...as you can see by the picture, its currently having a few 'issues' that prevent its appearance. Coming soon though...coming soon. Wait till the Alpina and/or 510 get a load of me..hehe, look the hell out.

Well, I'd offer to help, but I am geographically challenged, ie stuck in the middle of nowhere.

I can offer the following advice about the welding you need done: go to Jackson Autosport. John has a TIG welder AND knows how to use it, plus they are friendly and helpful, and won't be likely to look at you like you are from mars when you show up with an armload of obscure parts that need putting together.

    Allen:

We'll all look forward to seeing you friday night. If you get there early enough you might get a few sessions in to learn the track a bit.

It's pretty simple, really, only nine corners.....

Maybe you guys can show US a thing or two!!

    See you then,

I tried and tried and tried but I could not get that week off work...hopefully I can do the september race instead. Likewise don't forget that if you want to come to Calgary the Aug 23,24,25 weekend is the one to do it. This will be the Canadian GT championship/Vintage on the Praries weekend. $10000 (Canadian) purse and possibly more...plus there will be at least 2 authentic GT40's there...LOTS AND LOTS of track time!
