Default VW Wheels on 1st Gen CRX?

I know this is similar to the Miata wheels thread, but:

I just got a great offer from someone to sell me 5 straight and light Scirocco wheels that he'd used for his 1st gen CRX. I've heard (from cbstd's FAQ) that using water-cooled VW wheels is a good option because they're plentiful and light. Does anyone know if there are hub issues like there are with the Miata wheels?

Don't have an answer to your question but just another piece of input or info. When I ran my 87 VW Golf I had Dodge Neon wheels on it. Yet another possible option on the wheel front.

I have used OEM VW wheels on my 85 CRX for a while and did not have any problems. These wheels have a larger ID center hole which should pilot on the car hub but the VW pilot diameter is too large for the Honda hub. This means that the wheel studs are supporting the weight of the car and taking more than their share of the load which the hub ID holes should support. This is not ideal but functional, if careful.

    Good luck

I think that's the answer I was looking for. Someone else mentioned the studs doing different/more work, but could not articulate it like you did.

    Thanks for the repsonse.

Darn, 5 wheels for $50 sure was a good deal.

Used them for rains! Not as much load on them.
