Junkyard gearbox

Does anyboy know which gearbox is used in my 90 CRX-Si. If I call my local boneyard, which model & year cars can it get pulled from.

89 to 91 Si are all fine, 88 had a different number of splines. HF and DX units bolt up but have different ratios and final drive. Beyond that I belive all 92 and later trannies are hydro clutch rather than cable.

Oh further info I forgot.

Si Tranny has PL3/3000 cast into the casing just above the fill plug. PL3/A000 or A100 denotes the smaller bearing HF, DX, STD tranny. and the 88 has no marking in the casting like the 89 to 91 cases do.

also note:

the 90 and 91 si case has the 72mm differential bearings whereas the 88 and 89 si case has 80mm differential bearing. i am not sure if the markings on the
case denote that or not...

not that this affects which tranny will work in the 90 crx you asked about, but it does affect interchangability of parts, covers, etc...as a buddy of mine has recently found out the wrong way and gratiously shared his experience.

Tom, more food for thought. Unfortunately I am an expert on this.

88 SI tranny has a 27/32" shaft with a 21 tooth spline. An 88 has a 7 7/8" clutch disc. Both 88 and 89 use the same fly wheel. 88 and 89 tranny's use a 40mm (hole size in bearing) diff bearing that are stronger than the 35 mm diff bearing used on 90-91 tranny's.

89 SI tranny has a 27/32" 20 tooth spline. It also uses a 7 7/8" disc, but obviously is different than and 88. Again, it uses the same flywheel as an 88 and has the 40mm bearing

90-91 SI tranny has a 7/8" shaft with a 20 tooth spline. It uses a 8 3/8" clutch disc. Both the 90 - 91 use a larger flywheel than the 88-89. Also, the 90-91 has the weaker 35mm diff bearings.
