    Default Water Temp and Oil Pressure sender hook up?

    Guys,
    I have a set of electrical autometer gauges. I was wondering what the best way to hook up the sender units for the oil pressure and water temp. I also have oil temp and had the sender place in the back of the oil pan. Now, I'm ready to do the other two.

    Any thoughts, comments, suggestions are all welcome. Oh yeah, I'm running a 89 CRX SI.

    I have my oil pressure gauge T'd off my oil cooler lines, it seems to work well

    As far as water temp, I too am looking for a place to put this sensor. I've heard of people putting it in place of the bleed screw, and also in place of the stock water temp sensor

    Chris,
    I never thought about T'n the oil pressure of the line it self. I'm about to put an oil cooler where I might do the same thing. I forgot to mention that I've also seen the water temp T'ed off the main coolant line which runs (or use to) thru the heater core. Hum, I'll probably do the same thing there too.

    I usually T off the stock sending units for both. Except that I usually don't put the T right in the block on the oil sender port as its prone to snap off from the extra weight. I use a 1/8 bspt to 1/8 npt adapter to run a small (12") section of braided line off the block and to a T fitting with the OE and aftermarket senders in it. Autometer sells the braided lines premade for pretty cheap. I'd have to look up the part number if you need it. I have done this on many cars with good success.

    I just installed water temp, oil temp and oil pressure in a 94 Prelude. I bought one of the remote oil filter mounts with 2 inlets and 2 outlets (about $20) in conjunction with a spin on oil filter adapter (about $15). You can use the extra inlet port on the remote filter adapter to mount the oil temp and the extra outlet port for the oil pressure. It worked great.

    For the water temp, I removed the engine coolant outlet piece from the engine and drilled and tapped it for the probe to mount in directly. This is the perfect place for the probe as it is where the water is the hottest. Just so happens that the factory probe is in there as well. Also, if you screw up the piece, you can replace it easily.

    Just curious, just call me old fashoned, but when it comes to race cars, I always used mechanical guages. My understanding is that they are more accurate and reliable?

    I'm curious about this setup, as I don't think I've seen remote oil filter mounts with extra inlets/outlets. Can you tell me/us where you ordered and part numbers?

    Hey R2 Racing,

    Do you have a picture of your water temp sender install? I would like to see exactly how you did it. I'm using a similar block adapter and remote filter combo for the oil senders, but I haven't installed the water temp sender yet. It sounds like you have a good plan.

    Well, I just place the water temp sensor in the heater line where the header valved use to go. I manage to use 3 dollars worth of parts, one T fitting and 2 adapters (brass) for the hose to clamp on too. It was too easy!

    On question though, isn't the oil pressure sensor different? I see that the oil and water temp are the essentially the same sensor however my oil pressure is this big cylinder sensor which couldn't possibly go within the remote filter mount (see above). Oh, yeah they are all autometer electric gauges.

    CHRIS nice setup on the remote filter but are you sure you want it that close to the front when a single small bump can ruin your race and maybe your engine ???? but I love the setup and I would do the same but I will locate it inside the car closer to thr firewall.

    That's just a car with an identical filter mount to mine, with the pressure sensor on it. Mine is going to be mounted under the battery somewhere, much more protection there.

    I was able to fit a similiar remote mount on the drivers frame rail, just behind the rad and in front of the pully. The upside is it is a little safer than the one by the wheel, the downside is I had to make a long flat funnel out of tin that I have to wedge under the filter to keep it from dripping on the crossmember.

    I used the same port, but went to a mechanical oil guage.(old fashoned I guess).
