    Default 1.6 piston clearances

Does any one have any good idea of what the piston wall clearances should be on a 1.6 and a 1.8 engine with cast pistons?

I think most IT engines end up on or just over the stock loose clearance specs (as listed in Bentley manuals) in order to minimize piston skirt scuffing. If you're doing it yourself and not using anything odd, that's probably a good starting point. Experienced builders say that it also depends on many other factors, such as ring type and composition, piston structure and composition, operating environment, gas additives, desired output and longevity, just to name a few.
