Wish you were closer so I could trade you one of my low-mileage sunroof GTI VR6s for your clean-roof car My cage is scheduled to go in in 2-3 weeks, though. [email protected]

My old GCR has the GTI VR6 listed as an ITS car. Has this changed at all, or is this still the correct class for the car?

Last month at VIR for a NASA enduro weekend, there was a guy with a ~90 Golf GTI shell with a VR6 (Corrado motor & K frame, brakes & wheels), running the combined sprint/enduro practice & qualifying sessions. HOE-LEE-CRAP was that thing fast. Smokin fast. Yikes.

I have a new respect for the VR6 motor.

Back in '94-96 (?), there was a black SSA Golf VR6 that I'd see at Nelson Ledges every now & then. For a Showroom Stock car, it was a BULLET. Heard it got crashed and never rebuilt, then got sold off to the glue factory. Has it been reincarnated ? Inquiring minds want to know.

Wow. That should stir up the ranks of the weenies in ITS. I'll keep quiet.....

I think they could be a real solid choice in ITS. 200 crank hp would put it right with the RX-7 in terms of power/weight and the torque number would be off the charts.

BMW's are making OVER 200 at the wheels when prepared well...190+ at the wheels for a VR6 (at 2680) would put you in the "BimmerWorld"

Yes, I'm building one. Looks like 190 crank hp is doable, but 190 whp is definitely a pipe dream (it's only a 2xSOHC engine). Note that the swapped VR6 in the above-mentioned early chassis probably weighed several hundred pounds less than the min weight for the Mk3 GTI VR6.

If I can figure a way to do the computer on a budget, the W/P ratio might get close, and perhaps I can get within striking distance (at least in the wet). I'll probably first hit the track this year in an ITA 16V Scirocco, though, since the GTI is more expensive than I realized...

On a side note, the reason the VR6 into an A2 Golf goes so well, was because the Corrado was an A2 chassis. I have a friend w/ an A2 Golf VR6, and the thing is wicked fast. Would be interesting to see what you could do w/ $30-$40k and an A3 VR6 GTI.

My 98 OBDII VR6 GTI dynoed at 168whp/wtq with 60k miles and a GIAC chip, intake, exhaust with the mid-muffler removed. I think with some headwork, and really agressive computer maps, race gas and exhaust work, headers, etc. it's attainable.
