Water temperature gauge help

We have a Jetta III (1996) that needs an aftermarket water temperature gauge, where do you put the sending unit?

I put mine in the housing on the right side of head, in the upper housing.

I can send you a picture if you want?

P.S. This is a mechanical water pressure sending unit / gauge.
