Compression ratio

Is the difference in compression ratio between a GolfII and a Rabbit GTI in the head/combustion chamber or in the piston shapes? I'd like to put a solid lifter head and a mild cam on a CIS-E engined Golf without giving up the compression advantage.
And,before anyone gets their knickers in a knot, it's NOT for my ITB GTI!!!

The pistons are different, but the heads are the same (from a chamber perspective). The 10:1 pistons have a smaller 'dish' than the 8.5:1 pistons.
