    Default ITB Jetta

How would a 87 Jetta coupe fare in the ITB racing circuit?

Should be ok, but you're giving up 50# to the A2 GTI's, and don't get to do anything else to the car that they can't. I've heard people argue that the balance of the Jettas is better, but figure that extra 50# is costing you a couple of hp, and making your brakes (and tires) work harder. Back in the mid-90's, there some guys in New England w/ some fast A2 Jettas, but they were EMRA cars, not SCCA.

    Skin,
Jason Fairfax has been campaigning a 2dr jetta in ITB here at Summit Point for the last two years. He has had very good results with it. He can turn 1:35's here with a two hundred dollar junkyard motor.
Not too shabby if you ask me.
Remember that the weight in the GCR is based on a 4dr Jetta so you will be underweight. Also keep in mind that 2dr Jetta body parts are pretty rare.
    Good Luck

I'd suggest a four door. I bent my 2dr this year at Mosport, and as has been said, it is hard to find good body panels for it.

It's good to hear about Jetta coupes as I have started on my 88. But I've decided to go G Production instead of IT. Both the Golf and Jetta are the same weight in Prod, at 2165.

Where will you be racing this GP Jetta? It'll be good to have another VW in GP!

CenDiv, and Midwest Council. Hope to be at the Runoffs in 04. If I even get the car done by then. A Military paycheck doesn't allow fast buildup and buying of parts!

Guess I'll have to change my handle to WannaBGProd. It just doesn't roll off the tongue, though.
