Hope everyone in Florida is preparing for the storm, and comes through it safely.


Here in St. Louis we are particularly hoping the brunt of the storm misses West Palm Beach and our good friend Alan and Christine Russell....

Gregg, you know the saying that nothing in life is free. Yer butt may not get cold in the winter months but some of the other stuff connected with your fair state is questionable at best.

Good point. With all the debris (as in "trees") flying around during hurricane Charley, I just might wear a helmet all this weekend.

It is a bit unsettling to sit in the dark listening to 100mph gusts while feeling the trees hit your house.

Hey, perhaps we could have a Hurricane Sale? 2 for 1?

Tell me about it. Ice and snow was sounding pretty good while I was running a chain saw all day in Florida in August (heat index 102).

On a business note, good news/bad news:

A customer wrecked pretty hard this weekend, flattening the front of his car against a flopping rookies car. His comment after was, (regarding the Isaac), "My head moved forward in slow motion....it was like it was in a cushion". (then feathers puffed from his mouth)

Thats the bad news, the good news is an Isaac was at the front of the monsoon ITA race, and wasn't needed!

I sent my family off to GA, but will ride out the storm here in Orlando. The second wave of outer bands just passed overhead with a slight increase in wind speed. It should die down again before the heavy stuff hits.

All preparations have been made so we'll just have to put it in God's hands.

On a bright note, it looks like Frances will make landfall as a Cat2 'cane instead of a Cat4 like Charley. We'll see a longer period of sustained winds (6-8 hrs) this time because the storm is so much larger.

Hate to say it but tropical storm Ivan is following the same path as Frances. Its currently about 5 days west of Haiti.

I talked with Alan the other day and he was headed to Gulfport Ms to ride out the storm. Hmmm, according to WC, it was not a good choice since Frances if there is anything left is going to cross Fla, float across the Gulf and then impact into the Gulfport/Buloxi area.
It looks like I'll get a trip to Fla next week to check out damage to my parents place on the east coast just below Melbourne on A1A. At least it isnt a trailer to paraphrase JB.

WH, best wishes to your parents. I understand that Francis made landfall at their front door and unfortunately for everyone between Vero and WPB, Francis overstayed the visit. Melbourne and Ft.Pierce seem to have been hit the hardest. I'm leaving my windows boarded up until I know where Ivan is going.
Let the cleanup begin.

Don't know why they canceled the race at Sebring. Frances was no big deal here. Tree limbs down and a lot of water. Heck we race in worse weather than that storm. At least there wasn't any lightning to deal with.

In all seriousness, we should consider oursleves fortunate to come thru this one. 2 down, 1 to go I hope.

Hope everyone is safe and the damage isn't to bad.

Mike, glad that you made it through unscathed. We lost power for about 7 hours. I took that opportunity to take a nap and then Laura and I power washed the patio, pool area and the sidewalks around the house. Maybe during Ivan we'll power wash the driveway. 2 down and I hope we are as lucky with Ivan as we were with Charley and Francis. How has everyone else faired through the storm? Any one of our IT family out there need help?

Walt Puckett mentioned that LTB Motorsports got clobbered by the storm so if you have any hardware needs, Louis can use your biz. Be warned that they are going to be preoccupied for a while though.

Well, thats good news...sorta! Florida is great, but those hurricanse get old fast!

Note to self: When moving to Florida, move to an area that has no aluminum siding!

So you don't want to "test crash" an Isaac?? me either! (I was lucky to get to the front of the deluge and even luckier to stay on track)
