Default Indianapolis Raceway Park May 7-8

A cordial invitation to all to attend to the Indianapolis Region's Mothers Day Sprints at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP) on May 7th and 8th. Details and an entry form can be found at www.indyscca.org
New pavement is set to be laid next week in Turn 1 (weather dependant of course, but the forecast is favorable) by Grady Brothers Paving, the fine folks that paved the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A fast cure mix is being used to ensure that the pavement will be ready for us come May. Nearly 200 linear foot of new curbing will also be installed in various corners as well as some other pavement repairs around the track. We will be posting pics of the new paving on the web site next week.

I'll be there - Look for the Blue & Silver Saturn - I'll probably be the dirtiest guy in the paddock.

Have not had a chance to go out yet as I am currently on vacation in Florida. Others have been out to take a look and we will be having an official inspection early next week. I believe they will be starting on the curbing work next week as well.

I'll be there in my ITA Integra. My Dad should also be there in his ITC Civic.

I'm really looking forward to all of the changes at IRP. Just from the replies here, it looks like we'll have a good ITA field too.

The 2 TR8s should be there. I am happy about the paving at IRP. The TR8s did not like the way the track was getting

It'll be fun to race with the TR8's at IRP again. Theoretically you guys shouldn't be able to kick my ass so bad down the straights this year. Wait, I think ITA and ITS are in different run groups this year - I can't remember.

I sure hope the TR8s can beat the ITA acura down the straights, or we are in trouble. Got to love v8s with good torque

at least we're not in group 1. I hate having to get to the track that early.

I like being in group 1, personally. Your race won't be during the hottest time of the day and you can start your drive home earlier.

I hope that I'll be over my jet lag by Saturday for this event. The thursday evening beforehand I get back from two weeks in Japan. Adjusting that quickly might be interesting.

Just a few days out? Anyone have any thoughts, hints, tips or tricks?

Btw, my team is down to 1 Neon and 1 Escort. It may just be me now.

Well the weather forcast looks great so we should not have to worry about any rain this weekend. Also the temps are going to be 74 to 80.

Myself I have only been there twice, and it was during the open practice days so maybe someone else has more info, but here is what I learned so far.

As for tips I would suggest coming out on Friday as there is a open practice day and last year it was only $ 125 for the whole day.

As for areas of concern around the track, do not overdrive coming out of turn 5, if you spin there you can come back across the track and meet up with the wall.

Also take your time coming up to speed going through turn 9, and in the mourning be careful exiting turn 15 which leads you on to the dragstrip as it can be slick until there is some heat on the surface of the track.

The front straight is about 5/8 of a mile so you will be haulin ass before you turn into turn 1.

    Have fun, see you there.

Yes, we sent extra money in with our race sanction request to make sure our order for sunny, warm weather would be granted My rookie suggestions (I've worked may races and lapped, but never raced...yet): Yes, careful coming out of T15 until you are used to it. If there is any moisture (be it from the sky or another car), be very, very careful. Drag race track prep does not like moisture. Period. T1 can be taken pretty fast. I watched a lot of "One Lappers" braking WAY to early into T1 last Saturday. Work up to speed there. T2 is bumpy. Just deal with it. Going wide between T8 and T9 is not always the fast way around. Entry into T15 (concrete canyon) is, uh, interesting. I always keep in mind that it's better to take the escape road to the right of the wall than plowing straight in. There's a new video out on one of the One Lapper competitor web sites (http://www.lake-effect-racing.com/onelap/2005/) showing an STi plowing into the T15 tire wall when he went to deep and turned too late.

    Greetings from Japan!

I get back home on Thursday afternoon and will be recovering for a little while. Friday I'll load up and head for the track. I'm really looking forward to getting back in the car again at IRP. I checked out the weather forecast and it looks great. Wow, two years in a row.

Steve - don't worry, I've only got to drive twice while over here and it's very, very wierd. I'm not planning on adapting this style anytime soon.
