Default SM Gets Its Own Group at Road Atlanta

Great for SM, but even better for ITB and ITC IMHO.

So all you ITB and ITC guys that have been hiding... We'll see you next month .

You should have mine I know I saw something about hotels in another thread, but any good hotels close to the track? I will be there for the test day as I have never driven there before also hopefully will be trying out my Quaiffe and new gear. From what I have seen there are alot of long radius corners. I hope the lsd doesnt hurt me with a bad push...As far as not being there before...laziness I guess because I instruct for Chin Motorsports...

Yes, have yours. There are many hotels in Pooler (the major town close to the track) which is 25 minutes from Savannah. Just did a Google search on hotels, Pooler, Ga. and got 60k hits! No there are not that many, but the results did show all available. See ya'll there. Chuck

    where is your entry?

Sorry, but I kind of dislike Roebling Road. You Bama guys won't see me again unless hell freezes over and we get Barber back.

FYI, the best hotel rates I found were at the Comfort Inn in Pooler. It was $63 (AAA rate) compared to $75-80 for the others. Don't know why. It had all the same amenities as the other hotels. Maybe it's a dump. It's got a bed which is the big thing.

I'll be there for the test day as well. Gotta get seat time to get more confident in the car.

    See everyone there.

Man, am I glad to limit my exposure to the Miatas. No offense to the drivers or the cars, but running with IT cars makes as much sense as running the small bore GT and Prod cars with Spec Racers. No matter what you do, you're in the middle of their race and they're in the middle of your backside. Now that they're a National class, maybe they'll always run alone.

Too bad, Scott. Roebling is a good track, a lot faster that most we run. The ITC field is, at this time, 7 strong, so it will be one of the largest fields outside the ARRC. You still have time to load and get there. Chuck ( We would all like to see hell freeze over )

Just curious, what don't you like about Roebling? I have my likes and dislikes but overall I like it.

Just curious, what don't you like about Roebling?

Several things. One of them being that I've never figured that track out. Normally that makes me work harder and I get better, but at Roebling its caused me a few offs that were almost very ugly. I can typically be within 1 second of the track record everywhere we go except Roebling, where I've never done better than being within 3 seconds of it and I'm not competitive.

Add to that that I've seen lots of cars hook in the sand and start rolling and that I hate the paddock (especially if it rains) and I've just decided to stay away.

In the last 3 years I've had 3 major offs. All were at Roebling over the course of 2 weekends.

Me + Roebling = Not Good.

Scott, you are not going to get within one second of the track record there because the records were set years ago when the paving was new. Look at the dates on the records.

To say you can't figure the track out so you won't go back is pitiful. I think most of us try harder when the track is difficult to us and certainly more satisfying when we do have the appifiny. Good luck racing. Chuck

I like Roebling except for having to wait for the gate. The Comfort Inn is kind of a dump but it is a bed and AC for cheap. Get there early and get a pit off the asphalt, which by the way has been added to last year.

Track records are a good measuring stick but require a lot of factors to come together in order to be had. Group size, level of competition, weather, time of day, track condition, setup and tires can play havoc on any effort to be the fastest.

Roebling's surface is rough and will chew tires in a hurry if you're running the piss out of them. Make sure your temps and pressures are where you want them and then go chase down the guy ahead of you. With luck you can chase down that record as well.

As far as the track being off compared to years past I agree it should be resurfaced. But we set a record this year in CFC. What are ya gonna do?

You have your opinion Chuck, I have mine.

Mine is that it makes no sense to press the issue and my luck at a place I don't like in the first place.

    If you like it... Great!
    Have fun!
But its my least favorite track in the southeast, so I choose to spend my time and money elsewhere.
