looking for Hoosier info

First off - thoughts and prayers with Don Blayley for a speedy recovery.

I am considering, well, rather being forced to run the new Hoosier tire on my ITS 325 due to a lack of Goodyear GSCS. I have no experience with them. I run a 15x7 SSR rim. Looks to me that the 225/45/15 is the only size available. I have heard these tires require more break in and more camber vs the Goodyear. Any thoughts/color/comments, info appreciated. I run up North so you wont be giving away the farm so to speak....I ask here as it seems that the Hoosier is more popular in your area vs up North. Thansk in advance....

You're correct on the GSCS'. I run them also on my RX7.

Tried to get a set yesterday and they are "nationally backordered". Not really sure what that means.

The distributor I spoke with stated that Goodyear give the distributor no margin on the GSCS' so there is little incentive to stock or supply them.

I will be going with the Hoosiers in the future. At least they have useable track presence and fitment availability for us ITs folks.

This weekend I was actually going to get a set oh Hoosies but the tech said that the s04's should NOT be mounted and raced immediately.

So you need to go through a heat cycle and cool deal. No biggie "just" requires another $700/$800 worth of extra set of wheels so that the race tires can cure while you're out in practice.

Starting to wonder why I didn't get into something "affordable" like yacht racing!

The nominal tire for the 325 is typically the 225/50x15. I was told the new 04 Hoosiers would be available about this time in this size, but I haven't checked recently.

Have you considered Toyos in 225/50x15?

Actually, I have a set of the Toyo's that I use as my "rain" tire.

Not actually used them yet thank God enough challenge getting up to speed in the dry much less the wet. Guess I could try them out in a test or practice session.

Apparently the S04's are now available in either the 225x50 or the 225x45.

Basic stats indicate the 45 is a "little" smaller in most dimensions than the 50. I sort of hate to give up even a couple of 10ths of tread width as I tussle with you BMW guys.

On the other hand the 45 would give me a slightly lower (meaning "more" pull off a corner)effective rear end ratio.

Same price.

Thanks - No i havent tried Toyo, I didnt like thbe Proxes RA whatever when i ran them on my ITB car a while ago. If they have a new race compound tire that would be good for IT I am not aware of it.

FWIW I've had 2 sets. The first I thought I properly heat cycled them on a Fri. preactice day and did not run them until Sun. They were good for 6 sessions. The second set I had to scrub them in during qualifying and ran them that afternoon. I put the equivalent of 14 sessions and they were still better than the first set after 6. Go figure.

bldn - thanks for the color - what kind of car are you driving, what pressures do you run??

2nd Gen. RX-7. I generally run 35 all around, give or take a few pounds. I raced against a BMW this weekend and he was on 04's for the first time and he said that, per the Hoosier guys' recommendation, he had added a few pounds over what he'd run in 03's but that his hot pressure was as much as 52 so he dropped it somewhat.
