    Default Pocono in the rain....

Couple of people I have been talking to are bagging the weekend due to impending heavy rains...we are still going but what should we expect from the track - standing water etc?

Both times I went down there with BG we had to endure a crazy monsoon and freezing weather. Rent a garage and it's completely flooded? Tough luck buddy

I've got video around here somewhere....

    Andy,

It's always a real crap shoot w/ this race. I've been there when it's been nice, and I've been there when it's been horrible. And that's the dbl National in August!!!!

Seriously, you'll never know what the weather is like until you're there. Can look great 25 miles from the track, but when you get 'up on the hill', it's a different story.

I was at the weekend, where it was cut short due to fog. A friend of mine got boned on his school because of it, and we got boned on our races.

Take that for what you will. If it were me, I'd save my money and go to the Glen or Summit Point. The Labor Day dbl is a hoot!!!

it will vary depending if it actually rains. the local weather reports vary station to station with the most accurate(in my opinion) calling for possible thunder showers. this is as of 8:00 am this morning. there are a few areas that get slick if it rains steadily, and then there is the fog. if you have any questions, nick has my number, give me a call.

Well all I can say is I thought I was dodging the rain for LRP last weekend when it was 80% chance of showers and it was cold and clear. Wish I had gone!

    Got my rain tires ready

The garages won't flood even if there is 2 ft of water in the paddock. A garage is a good value at Pocono IMO, since the weather is generally unpredictable.
If it rains hard the races will be postponed/shortened, just like if there is fog, snow, tornado, etc.

Having flagged a few events there I can tell you that hard rain doesn't typically keep us from running, it's the lightening that sends everyone scampering for shelter. Personally it never bothers me, I just make sure I'm not the one holding the umbrella.

Chris is right about the garages staying dry even when the rest of the paved paddock is under water. Although I have heard stories of garages flooding years ago I believe they have fixed the drainage since it wasn't a problem duing the monsoon we had either 2004 or 2003. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about the fog. Good luck to Andy and the rest making the trip I would be up to work but I have two cars to get ready for Memorial Day.

Ladies and Gentlemen, speaking from experience in driving in the rain at Pocono on that track configuration, it can be very expensive to both you and the guy you hit.

The back straight has a nasty tendency to create puddles near the middle of the track and just before the braking zone for the chicane. I plowed into another driver because of nasty hydroplaneing where I was completly at the mercy of the devil.

So please keep this in mind, and if a section of track looks a little wet, you can probibly launch a boat in it.

I never had any problems in the rain at Pocono, I actually loved it... But then again any track in the rain is my favorite

Speaking of rain congrats to the T2(?) Camaro (or firebird?) that whipped the factory WRX and Evo's but at the NHIS National in the Rain a few weeks back... The driver "didn't make one mistake" from the mouth of the fustrated but happy WRX drivers.

Just to add to what Tom said. A few years ago, it was the Mother's Day weekend monsoon. There was so much water on the track, that even w/ brand new, full-tread Kumhos, I was spinning the tires down the front strait, at half throttle!
