Default LasT Freezin Chance at "The Glen"

Congraulations to the Flat Out crew for wining the 3hr and the IT group race. Results ITS. 1st Nick Leverone(Rx-7 NER),2nd Chris Camadella(Porsche Glen) 3rd Dave Maynard (BMW Ner) ITA 1st Ray Chee(Intega NER)2nd Scott Haven(CRX NER) 3rd Rick Benazic (Miata NYR)- ITB Dan Thiel(Volvo flr) 2nd Joe Ottati (Volvo Gln) 3rd Jerry Monaghan (Golf NNJ). Did get see a few on the regulars but everyone was trying to keep from freezin. Hats off to workers that stood out in the cold. The finish was a bit confusing We got the 1 lap sign and Nick got the checker all at the same time. Seems like last year it was blistering hot quite a change.

So, check this out. Sat nite Kim and I pull into the paddock, find Scott H, and park next to him. I'm already miserable from the five hour tow and the cold. I get out of the truck and heard some faint cat's meow. Great! Our neighbour brought a cat to the track. Then I noticed that where I parked I would have to park the racecar over a drain dangit. So I get on with the unloading. Then Scott starts yelling,"Hey! there's a cat in drain" Sure enough, the meows were coming from down in the drain. I grabbed a flashlight and Scott yanked the drain cover off. The cat was in the pipe before it opened up to the drain. Well, after about a hundred cat calls, a few here kitty kitties and a piece of chicken sandwich, the cat came close enough to the edge of the pipe where Scott was able to grab it and pull it up out from its demise. Waaaayyy to go Scotty H., and congrats on your 2nd place finish.
Sunday was freaking cold and windy and I spent most of the day in the tow rig catching up on some zzzz's and trying to stay warm, only emerging to qualify and race but I still enjoyed my short stay at the Glen. I'll be back again next year.

According to the TV screen and speaking to Marie after the event, Bob Smart and I finished 1st in ITB in the 3hr Enduro (MoHud) and 20th overall (started 40th) in our BMW 320i, winning the enduro series for the 2nd year in a row.

    Dave,
Congratulatons on winnng ITB. Are you going to test the guts of your tow truck with another run to Nelson Ledges in a couple of weeks?

    Hey Bill,

Smarty and I are debating the run out to Nelson at the end of the month. If we do go, I doubt it will be in my pickup. The engine is in need of a full rebuild (one quart oil with every fill up) The tranny leaks out the back, and I keep popping tail light/trailer fuses, so it would be in a different tow vehicle.

I had a ball out there in August and everyone I met and raced against were great people as well. Are you running that weekend?

    Dave,
I am sorry the truck needs all that work, but the price was right. I am not sure if I will make that weekend. I definitely want to race one more time before the snow hits. If I do, I will put the car on the trailer and show up. There will not be much time to prep, and to the 7's benefit, they are durable. However, my Dad has had his EP TR3 out twice since August. He may be racing. I hope to see you guys there.

That's great for your Dad getting out there. I also have to apologize for not sending you the video clips from your race that I promised. After downloading them to the computer (and erasing the camera's memory stick), my 9yr old Mac crashed, and I had to finally get a new computer. Sorry about that.

What, no love for ITC results?

I finished second on Sunday in ITC in a car I haven't driven in 2 years. Funny how that car's never been pulled before, even by ARRC Champion cars, yet got it's ass kicked down the straights buy the ITC car who won. 10 car lengths down the back straight? Uhm...ok. First time I've ever seen an ITC car just straight up pull out and pass a Spec Miata down a long straight.

Every time ITB runs with ITC I it makes me drive better as I get pissed that an ITC car is pulling away from my big old 2.2L 5cyl.

I think that the ITC cars might have some sort of private pact together as some of them seem to me like they are way to fast but they do all get along great and have some really great races and good times. Not in support of cheating, but also not going to judge, that is for you ITC folks to do

Glad to see you brought the car back out!!!

Raymond remember you are carrying a lot of extra weight in your car compared to the ITC rabbit's etc. For instance when Iw as running my rabbit I always was right at minimum weight(2000lbs)that makes a huige difference, it also is a lot easier to get a good run out of turn and or not scrub as much speed through a turn with car that ways a lot less(less speed scrubbed off)

So which car did win ITC ? I wish I could of been there to play. sounds like fun even though it was cold. Did you guys run the Long or short course? And what were the ITC times?
To bad we couldn't run with ITB at Lime Rock again like the year before. I think we could of had a chance for the pole.
And Ray...I ve never raced with a nicer bunch of guys and girls in a super competitive class and just because we are quick doesn t mean we are all cheating.

I have no idea what the potential is of your cars (ITC)... some say that it is all momentum (at say lime rock). But sometimes I do wonder with a few times that I have sceen. I havn't worried about it to much though as you all seem happy. I will take your word an assume that most are if not all are legal.

I will admit though most of the ITC cars can beat a lot of the ITB cars (as in many of the IT fields), but still maybe our class should be combined??? That would make for some very very good races!!! You all very good drivers and I do prefer to run with ITC over any other class in SCCA other than ITB

I''m with Raymond on that one. Running with the ITC cars is more fun (and makes the most sense - if only the # of entrants would support that combo).

I totally agree, I think running with ITB is fun ! Plus with the restructure of the IT classes , unless I have read wrong in the fastrack, Now some of the A's are going to B and some of the B cars are going to C. So to me it seems logical to run the 2 classes together(B + C). Perhaps with the restructure we could get the numbers to do that.
Dave, how did you do at the Glen ? I would of stayed and chatted but traffic was beeping at me on Nott street. Plus i had to work the other Job. I heard you built a barn? I was wondering if you have space for rent? I might be moving soon and the Rabbit needs a home.Email me @ [email protected]

Diane, you should have been there. It was like ice racing without the ice. That and ITB ran with ITA and ITS. We would have been on the track at the same time!!!

I was doing little things to the car (oil change, tape replacement, ...) so I only saw bits and pieces of the Enduro. I was near where the Shine car went upside down, but didn't see it happen. Nice to see the driver come out safe.
Sunday it was soooo cold I had my front grill taped up and the car still ran cold.

I had my EZ-Up held down with 1 3" ratchet tie down to a fence with another 1" as back up. The wind was insane at night. It was strong enough to make the top of the tent (6' high center) go low enough to hit my crew sleeping in it in the head.

    But I had fun.

Yeah, it was a hoot, but took some work to stay comfy! We were glad to have the truck/car hauler to hide in during the day, out of the wind.

Can't comment much on running with the pack, as I wasn't; was driving ITA 36, mid-race, pitted out of sequence and lost the dying motor after 10 minutes out on track by my lonesome... that was me parked at about the 1:20 mark at the entrance to the Bus Stop...

Sure looking forward to being in B next year, though! Definitely going to have to get back to the Glen again!
