Default Victoria Cup Finale and Formula Vee Festival 8/6/2004 $225

Please enter now for this event!! We need to make sure that NNJR knows as soon as possible that race group 1 needs to be split. It will make it much easier for them if we all register as soon as possible that way they know what they are dealing with!

I hope someone form NNJR is reading this and will take another look at racegroup 1! ITB SS and all miatas? If you are from NNJR can you please tell us if and how you are splitting the group. The supps are very confusing because in part of it it says that only 38 will be allowed to register but then another part it says you need to qualify to race. Does anyone know how it is actually going to be?

    Thanks for your concern

    FIRIST LINE OF SUPPS:

Due to the constraints of racing at Lime Rock, only 38 entries per race group are allowed to start so entries are limited! Enter Early!

    LATER ON IN THE SUPPS:

Oversubscribed Races: If there are more than 38 cars entered in a race, the following procedure applies: each car’s
    qualifying time is
compared as a percentage of the leader’s time in that class. (i.e. Your time is 65 seconds, the class leader’s is 60 seconds; 65/60 x
100=108%) Cars with the highest percentages become alternates for the race, to the point where the 38 car field is filled. Cars higher than
    120% may be excluded.

Hey Stephen, looks like there is already ten race groups so splitting a group to form another may not be an option. Maybe if they just fanagle around some of the smaller groups, that may be the thing to do. Group 9, ITA/C looks pretty small(16 entries so far) Maybe take SM out of group 1 and stick em in group 9 and nobody goes home. Just a thought.

P.S.-Only 13 A cars? Whats up wit dat?

I just hope they are doing somethign since I'm sure the entries are far from complete. I hope they change it around some but swithcing run groups so no one gets turned away either way they need to clarify the decision factor. I'm sure I can qualify to race unless something breaks but I am the 40 person to enter.... do I travel and spend all that money to find out they went with restricting it to the first 38 or do I hope they decide to qualify to race? That is my concern.

    Hope all is well

    Whats up wit dat?

I'm wondering what's up wit the entry fees. The regional fees are the same as the national fees. Wer'e reaching the same price point as a round of golf at Pebble Beach.

    That's wat I'm talkin bout.....

This is the same deal as back in the June regional. the ITA/Miata class had 46 entries in one group. The typical limit per the 1.5 mile track is 38, but there was a special dispensation to run 44 cars on track. Yes, the best qualifying times of the first 44 cars were only allowed to race. And, it was only the fastest 22 from each of the 2 groups (22 ITA, 22 SM). The 2 guys that qualified last DID get to "race" with the Historic group at the end of the day.

so it is definetly qualify to race not first come first served like it says in the first line. That's what I needed to know. As long as it is qualify to race and not by who registered then I am in.

Thanks for clarifying. to me it seemed like they added only the first 38 that register because they didn't want to deal with the qualifying to race like they did before.

Actually, this isn't ture. What they did was take the cars out with the overall highest percentage 'off' of the qualifying time of the top qualifier. It so happened that the cars that were 'bumped' in this race were all ITA cars. 25 ITA cars started, 13 SM's and 8 NSM's. 3 ITA cars made it into the consolation race.

    Results here: http://www.mohud-scca.org/Race/2004/Results/6r.html

It's hard to picture but this is how it works:

Lets say the limit is 40 cars. 30 ITA cars show and 20 ITC cars show. The 10 cars with the largest differential compared to their respective top qualifier will get bumped. Could be a mix, could be all from one class.

If they decided to take the slowest from each class, there would be no reason to compare %'s because you would just take the slowest qualifiers in each group, based on raw times.

Here is a nice easy split of the 57 cars now in group 1:

    GR 1A - ITB and SM: 12 + 17 = 29

    GR 1B - SSM, SSB & SSC: 22 + 2 + 4 = 28

    ***************************************

    Easy!

No way Jose. Now you're talking eleven race groups. You'd be lucky to get in a 10 lap sprint for each group. Not worth the $225 price tag.(...but you know darn well I would be there regardless) .
Sorry I have to miss this one but y'all have fun and be safe.

    Andy,
That is a good split, but they will have to get rid of at least one race group by merging them.
The problem is who ever made up the race groups did not look at the number of cars we are getting this year, especialy SM and ITA. They probalbly used last years groups.
They can move FF to big bore open wheel and move CF and F5 into FV.
Also move SRFinto a group of small bore.

It's gonna be interesting. By creating 1A and 1B, you don't go against the GCR by sending someone to an earlier run group if you move carefully.

Move G2 to G8 and combine them for a total of 34 open wheel cars.

Since it is called the Formula Vee festival do you think they will stay with the 1 race group for FV only or do you think they will combine them with others?

    Am I missing something?

This is a TWO day event. The extra $25 ($225 vs $200 usually at LRP) isn't that much since we get another full day. (two practice sessions that we don't normally get)

And since Sat won't have qualifying sessions, it is totally feasable to have 11 run groups.

<--- registering for ITA group right now

About time you registered! And excellent points - 8 or 9 race & qualify sessions should equal a good 13 race only sessions.

Eleven race groups can be done and probably will be done if that what it takes to get everyone to race.It is entirely possible if you do the math. Right now it's 48 mins per race group including turn around time.Eight hours of total track time Sat with ten groups. Add the eleventh group and the turnaround time becomes 43 mins. At the currently scheduled 30 min race, that leaves only 6.5 mins to get the race going and 6.5 mins to wrap things up before the next group. Better hope there's no cleanup or the later groups will suffer from shortened races. Is everyone thoroughly confused yet?
Ok! So where did the 8 hrs of track time on Sat come from? You figure 9 to 9:30am is warmup. 9:30 to 12:30= 3hrs. 12:30 to 1:00pm is lunch. 1:00 to 6:00pm= 5 hrs.
BTW- This is purely my guesstimations and could be thought of as off the wall thinking so take it FWIW.
Hmmm! A two day regional at LRP-$225+
A week at Disney World in Forida with family and friends-Priceless
See you all next week. Drive fast and take chances but be safe.
