    From the LRP web site:

"Jim Ocuto won the 25-lap Spec Miata Challenge race over Herbert Sweeney and Peter Smith."

    From specmiata.com:

Jim Ocuto won from pole (qualifying @ 1:02.9!),
Herb Sweeney 2nd, Peter Smith 3rd. Much carnage for many in the race and in qualifying. 45 cars entered...not sure how many actually finished. Plenty of bent sheet metal thru out the paddock.

    What??????

    A 1:02.9??? Hmmm, that's pretty respectable....

What were the other times? Good job Pete!!!

Were you there Ony? (or just well informed?) If so, how'd you do? (I thought your car was really bent recently...)

Just informed (not even "well", I would say).

That was posted by someone else on specmiata.com.

I did think that the pole lap time was pretty quick, compared to other results that I have seen posted here. These little cars keep surprising me.

The 1:02.9 looks like a timing glitch to me.

Jim Ocuto's SM is a good example of where SM under the national rules is headed.
This car represents the best of everything; from motor, tuned exhaust, ballance, testing and a top driver to round out the package.

The SM class is going to become more of an IT class going forward with numerous "hot" packages offered by a number of tuners and builders, resulting in wider qualifying gaps between "the haves and the have not".

Perhaps Ocuto's SM demonstrates a little better why we chose to create the very conservative (More Spec'd) SSM class, which doesn't allow the tuned, custom-build intakes and exhausts, which can add a considerable increase in power.

Doug, Is my Miata too pretty to take a picture of? You got one of me but not my whole car. Half the car is shown behind TJ's golf at NHIS. I know the car isnt ugly enough to be mine,so you didnt know which one it is.

So do I in my A car. Take a look at the lap times. The lap before the 1:02.9 was a 1:04.5. The next fastest lap he had was a 1:03.3, and that followed a series of 1:03 lap times so that is understandable. You will never see your fastest lap after one of your slowest.

Yes, but not in IT trim.

Understand this. Jim won because he a very good driver. He went faster than everyone else (only a 1:03.8-but the only car in the threes during the race) and he did a fine job getting through the traffic and has a well sorted car. I'm not trying to take anything away from anyone. All I'm saying is that the 1:02 looks like a timing glitch. Let's put it this way. If the 1:02 was done during the race, It would be a new track record. How would you Miata folks feel about having to go that much faster to even come close to bettering that record? Do you have it in you? Is your car capable? Aside from his ability, do you think his car is that much better than yours?

    Dan-

If you have sent the stuff in they WILL send you a fax with a copy of your license. they will process any necessary paperwork THAT day so you can get it in time to race. If you don't have a fax to recieve a copy have it faxed to my house (603) 228-1254. You can pick it up from us, or we can bring it over to your house or the track. Try to do this at least 1 day in advance incase the fax does not go through, as knowone will be home during the day to verify that it goes through. I could also recieve a fax at my work and drop it off. Call me on my cell (603) 738-6686 if you want that fax number.
