in a 35 car ITA/ITC field, one of the three ITC cars was around 9th on the grid! With a 1:04.6 (?). In the 4s for sure.

Did not back it up in the race, but Brian Mushnick went off big in West Bend, so we only had 3 racing laps and 6 or 7 overheating laps while they yanked the bunny back to its wheels and put the wall back together. He was fine, took a bow. One car incident, he thinks he had a sudden LF puncture. I certainly saw some very agressive driving (too agressive as I was half overlapped on one car twice and had to take to the grass, all four wheels once ) and a pass of two cars under the double yellow, which interestingly didn't come out for at least a lap after the incident. I found it pretty sad that after seeing the mess, and knowing they HAD to go full yellow, that anyone could possibly miss not one, but two or three flag stations.

The ITA lap record took a shot, but also held, as Anthony Serra backed up his testing times from Tuesday with a 1:01.9 in qualifying. Went a 1:02s in the race I think.

I'll let the ITS/ITB boys fill us in on that group, but there was a lot of carnage, indeed. After the race, one multi car team was having difficulty deciding the order to send the cars to thh bodyshop in...

ITS pole was taken by an E30 BMW! Kip VanSteenberg rented a Flatout car and was up front as well. The E30 looked fast in the race and was an absolute DEMON on the brakes.

If anybody has the results I'd like to see them too. I didn't bother to hang around, throwing away $225 for two laps seemed rather pointless.

As far as Anthony goes, Rich and I were creeping up on him and I think it was just a matter of time. Keep in mind that the new tire is quite quick, and it had a lot to do with the fast times.

Any incar pics of Brian's shunt? that must have got his attention! They should have red flagged are group and fixed the wall properly, $55.00 a lap at lime rock is a little much, Brian's is gonna have to buy the beer at NHIS to make up for this one! I'm glad he was in one piece, better there then the downhill. Looked like lots of carnage this weekend. Everyone one I have spoken with is going faster on the new tires.I remember when 4's was the fast number in A. Hope to see everyone at Pocono.

excuse my ignorance, but what are the new tires that'll make me go SOOOH fast-I (really) want to get some. Phil
Also-when a drive needlessly and blatantly "takes someone out" or in the second case hits (me) at the downhill apex resulting in a near rollover, isn't it pretty traditional to come over and make amends? Whats the problem here?

The new tires are the new Hoosiers. Not easily available in all sizes yet....hence I was out on last Septembers tires. Hoping they can get some to me soon so I can get testing and figure out the setup!

Anthony (R Racer) has data aq. and says he sees big improvements, but I will let him fill us in on that if he wants.

As a side note, Greg Amy, Dick P and I got together at the snack bar at lunch and showed the flaggers, grid folk, and all who wanted to see, the various H & N systems. I think reactions were very favorable, and word got up the pipe to Topeka, where the word was also complimentary.

The region had a tough one on the tire wall deal, there was a lot of grumbling after about how we over spent for out track time. I have no idea of the decision process, but I imagine the timelie was a tough estimate, and the need to get a backhoe out of the paddock was the deathblow. Maybe if you all want to let me know I can voice the drivers opinions at the next comp board meeting.

On the upside, we did did get 8 1/3 races in a Lime Rock day, AND an extra worker session for the H&N demonstrations as well.

Huge numbers of entries...between all car counts if you consider SSM and SM to be in the IT camp, we had about half the cars registered.

Finally, and this one event can't be considered (necessarily) as the case everywhere, but from a numbers distribution standpoint, IT is healthy but lopsided. S and A had over 50 cars between them. B and C had under 20. C was 3. Redistribution could be a thought here, and gives stewards more flexibility to re-org run groups when things get filled up.

There were two cameras in the car from my understanding. The front facing camera, upon impact tore from the mount on the cage. The other camera bent it's mount. I will get the tapes from B tomorrow and see what's on them. Hopefully they show us something.

    Sucks I couldn't attend the event :-(

    Warning. Rant Mode On

    Boy am I pissed.

Near the end of the race I spun in Big Bend and ended up near the outside, on the pavement, looking up-track. The blessed corner workers immediately started furiously waving yellow flags. So did the workers in the “outpost” which is line-of-site directly down the front straight. No matter, almost everyone continued into that corner at full race speed. So one green/white Mazda did not slow. When it finally became painfully obvious to him that there was a blockage on the pavement, he hit his brakes and then spun into me hard. Very hard. Now the corner workers were even more furiously waving yellow flags with two cars on the pavement. Did people gather it together? No freakin’ way. One red/white Mazda had not a clue what a flag means; started to slide and I thought I was going to get nailed again. He barely got it together and drove through the small space between the two wrecked cars (and all the glass). What if a worker was attending to one of us? Are you all so addicted to the red mist that you’ve forgotten what a waving yellow means to yourselves and the workers?

The car is a write-off. While I am a little physically sore, I am more disappointed that my fellow racers did not care enough about me or themselves to ‘do the right thing”. I understand the comm radios were blazing with complaints from the workers and officials regarding overdriving the yellows. From my wide-eyed perspective I would have written down 20 car numbers and had a stewards request for action send them all packing for the season. Until someone comes forward and gives someone a real penalty this will continue.

And no, I did not file a protest. By the time I was calmed down enough to think, the protest period had ended.

    Rant mode off.

Wrecked Rabbit GTI shell for sale. McMahan cage bent at passenger’s door. No sunroof.

Mr. Blaney, I guess I won’t need those tires soon.

Dave, that was me who hit you and I'm sorry as hell. I think I've tracked down your phone number (NYC, correct?) and was planning to call you tonight.

What I think you may not understand is that I came through only a few seconds after you; in my in-car video, your spin is clearly visible. I was somewhere between start/finish and my braking zone when you spun.

The first yellow I saw was waved frantically by a worker inside Big Bend - not farther uptrack, and not at the outpost, where it would have been visible earlier. When I saw it, I had completed my braking and turned in, with the left side of the car heavily loaded. Perceiving the yellow and your car more or less simultaneously, I lifted or tapped the brakes again - not sure which - and that's what caused my spin.

I have watched my in-car only on the tiny screen, so it's possible I have missed something. However, I am 99.9% sure that when I came through, the only yellow out is the one I mentioned.

So I humbly suggest to you that what I'm guilty of is poor car control at a critical moment, rather than red mist or recklessness.

As to our fellow drivers, I tend to agree with you. Many, many seconds after I hit you - presumably with waving yellows further uptrack - people were coming in way too hot.

If you'll email me with your contact info ([email protected]), I'll send you a copy of my tape and you can judge for yourself. I'm also willing to post it here if someone helps me digitize it.

That car was me (as I am sure you know). In the interest of maintaining some semblance of professionalism, I would ask that you call me to discuss your 'perspective'. My response to your assertions may not be appropriate for this board. 508.697.8111

FWIW: File some papers next time if you REALLY believe what you are saying AFTER you get the facts.

Interesting to note that an ITC car could have won the ITB race, and an ITA car could have won the ITS race. These facts in addition to the top-class heavy structure of IT underlines the need to drop backmarkers into lower classes.
