    Jake,

How about a race report? It's nice to hear folks opinions of new tracks/regions.

The track really grew on me. At first I wasn't too sure about it, but at I gained experience and confidence with driving it, I liked it more and more. In some areas the track surface was a bit beat up, but surprisingly it really didn't effect handling much. The track has a little of everything - elevation changes, the how big are your kohonas turns, long straight, tight turns, ect. If you like the downhill at LRP, you'll have some fun on one of the turns at Summit.

This particular event is very, very large so paddock space was very tight. Jake and I actually shared one space, which still wasn't too bad. I think there were about 365 entrants.

My only complaint was the time it takes to get there. From CT it took us about 7 hours. I will definately be going back next year for the same labor day event.

It was also nice because my wife and our other friends were able to go to Washington D.C. during one of the race days - 3 full days of racing would have been too much for them. I know, it's hard to believe. They must be crazy.

I've been to Poconos, LRP, the Glen, and NHIS. Summit may be my new favorite track. I do really like LRP (the downhill) and the Glen as well. Summit seems to put emphasis on the driver and the car unlike some tracks where it is more reliant on how fast the car is. It's worth a trip.

    Holy spinning jap cars, Batman!

    Talk about the seas parting!!

The guy in the grey/blue Acura (?) is probably saying "Seemed like a good idea at the time...but then it all went horribly wrong"!

Hate to say this but it sure looks like the RX-7 moved over needlessly and took out some inoccent bystanders...

As an RX-7 driver, I hang my head in shame....

Glad you had fun...are you doing the cheap date or The NARCC offs?

I used to run at Summit in the early 90's... if you think the track surface could use some work now, you should have seen it then. Turns 1, 8 and 10 had been ground down and left that way....
And the curbing you guys have to lean on now was usually a 4-6 inch drop off back then....

Your video reminds me of another "infamous" start in ITS many years ago with 3 cars side to side and a fourth one tried to squeeze into the space on the outside and ended up going into the tire wall on drivers right near the old sound control position and going airborne while another car nearly drove underneath of it. The pics used to be for sale in the store but alas, we looked and oculdn't find them.
The one car in the pic is now residing in my garage...

Now, it would have been a great weekend if the ITS lap record hadn't been re-set again.... funny, his new lap record was faster than the EP winners fastest race lap..

I went to a IMSA race at Summitt Point in the summer of 88. It was GTO and GTU and the challenge cars. It rained and it was the first time I ever saw cars slid while stationary on the track . That puppy was so alick you could hardly walk on it. The macadam was worn so far that the pebbles in the base layer were worn smooth.

The righthander at the bottom of the hill (4?) had water, then mud all the way across the track.

The challenge cars tried to run a 3 or 4 hour enduro. What a sight!!

The racing was almost as exciting as the paddock dash it just seems that could be handled better. Maybe they should sell spots like gettinfg a garage at other tracks. It was nice to be able run something other than rain tires. Also the OG racing store is great since you can actually see the stuff you're buying instead of mail order. Prices seemed to be in line on the items I looked at. Looking forward to next year. Now on to the Glen next weekend. Tom Weaver "Truck" driver for ITA 63 also next year maybe we "Yankees" should stick together . The Spec 7 crew had quit a "battle" 16 reported metal to metal and Stewards ended the race 3 laps early.

Yeah - I think it was that RX7 that started it. The very same car that took out my MR2 friend in the previous race (also on video on my site).

The remainder of the year for me consists of all the LRP's I can manage and the Glen race/Enduro with EMRA.

Is that the same RX-7 that hit Dave and spun him going down the Chute? Looks like the same one.... hmmm.....
Dave was lucky he went off where he did, little bit further up or down the Chute and it could have been a bad one....

The very one. Did you see Dave's in-car footage? Looks pretty hairy. He even got up on two wheels when he hit the barrier. He was thinking of protesting him at that point, but decided against it. In hindsight, there might have been a safer start to the second race if he had.

Hmmm.... save me the trouble of the video analysis...what is the number of that RX-7??

And where are the results posted?? Thanks.

If he didn't, seems like the SOM should have filed a RFO.... two incidents like that in one weekend..and they thought the Spec-RX7 group was bad.......

Didn't see Dave's in-car. I spent most of the August race weekend in his pits BS-ing with Brian Downey, yet I'm not even sure if I met Dave....If he'd gone off and hit the concrete wall or the tire barrier Dave would have had a hell of a ride. As it was, I'd say he couldn't have asked for a better spot to go off, at least the damage was kept to a minimum. I was watching from the outside of the Carousel when he went off and didn't even see the other car, until I saw the video I thought he might have gotten into some oil or something in the kink...

Results for all the races are here...

    http://www.wdcr-scca.org/results/index.htm

I'd have to go re-watch the vids to get the number..... and with my dial up.. you know how that goes.

While you are looking at the results, look at the winners fast lap in EP and compare it to the new track record in ITS... see why so many old ITS cars are now gathering dust in people's garages? Put the E-36 in LP-EP and with no mods other than removing the lights, windows and putting on slicks and you've got an instant EP front runner....maybe not in Nationals, but certainly in Regionals.. with a little prep work? Who knows?

RX7 car number was 99, here's a direct link to the wild ride he gave Dave in the first race:

This is Dave's in car. You can just see him in the beginning in his mirror.

Here it is from my view from right behind:

    >Well, after watching the one video a couple times, I'd say it was 50-50 with Dave.. RX-7 was trying to force him to lift being off-line for the kink, and Dave didn't lift like he expected him to.
The RX-7 definately screwed up the start though...

I really shouldn't be watching these videos... last weekend was my 9th anniversary of my last race... and there's a wrecked ITS 240Z sitting in my shop.......too tempting...and crewing for my old 280 doesn't help much either.

    Jake,Dave,tdw6974,
I am very glad you guys made the trip. Hopefully it was worth the effort.
Thanks for the comments on my store (OG Racing). All the stuff that i stock here is the same that is on our website. Prices are the same(I have to race with you guys)and it is nice to be able to see and touch the products rather than just looking at a picture on a website.
As far as the on track incidents go the videos are interesting but with out seeing what led up to them it is hard to say...
The driver in question in both incidents is John Janzsen,he has been racing here for ten years and I have found him to be competent and fun to run with. But as we all know there are three sides to every story.
Hope to see you all back real soon.
    Have Fun

In the video of the start, the RX-7 stays in the same position, or even moves left. Watch him in relation to white dashed center line.
The Acura tries to use the pit out lane to make a pass, and moves left when he runs out of paved surface.
