    Default Porsche 914 in IT

Can a 914 be a cost effective competitor in ITA or B ?

    Historically, not really.

    Not velocity-wise, either.

Can't see it working. From a PCA Club Racer I know, the J Stock 914's can't keep up with his 924 on the straight... and in my ITA 924, I can't keep up w/ many ITA cars on the straight. So I can't see it being an improvement in ITA.

If you're hell-bent on running the 914, but looking for a more exciting and competitive series than PCA and run in the Midwest or east coast, you may wish to check out an alternative w/ NASA (gratuitous plug inserted here): GTS Challenge. German cars, mainly Porsches and BMW's, under a modified 13/13 rule, but with IT-level of competitiveness and driving skill. More info including schedules at:

I'm sorry to hear this. I loved my old 914, which I sold to a buddy who promptly dropped in a Porsche 6 cylinder. That solved the straight line problem.

He now wants to sell it back to me. Of course, if I put it on the track I'd get severely dusted in SP.

Maybe not. We had to dodge one at the 2000 24 Hour @ Moroso, and they did 'o.k.' -

The 'P' cars ('P1' and 'P2') were, essentially, the SP classes.

Still not sure how the damn thing went 102 more laps than we did...but it was stinkin fast.

    IIRC, loud too.

Hey, not a bad performance for a /6!

Too bad the 4 banger isn't competitive in IT. The car is a grin to drive.

Convert it to FP and have a ball on slicks.

Well, Greg, the GTS Challenge _is_ working its way down to the SE Region, and you certainly would be able to play (and NOT get dusted) there!

    Hmm.

Yeah Vaugh, we could have a 9X4 race! Oops, probably different classes.

FP would be a major project, but the /6 and slicks would make for a fun ride.

I think there was a class win at LeMans years ago.

I don't have the time for a full-blown race build. Is there a class for this car in SS?

Showroom Stock cars are age-limited - 10 years now. My 1996 GTI has two years left in its legal SS life.
