    Default 88-91 Civic/CRX to ITB???

I requested this last year, before the enlightenment, and IIRC got a "Thank You for Your Input."

Comparing the ever popular ITB GTI and ITA CRX Si with the Civic/CRX DX, it looks like a pretty clear cut case for the DX to be in ITB at about 2175 to 2200lbs.
    For your consideration...

    Manufacturers Listed HP
    GTI - 105 (1991)
    Civic/CRX DX - 92 (All)
    Civic/CRX Si - 110 (All)

    Current GCR Weight
    GTI - 2280
    DX - 2225
    Si - 2140

Power/Weight Ratio (based on Man. HP and IT spec weight)
    GTI - 21.7
    DX - 24.1
    Si - 19.4

    Compression
    GTI - 10
    DX - 9.2
    Si - 9.1

    Displacement
    GTI - 1.8 liter
    DX - 1.5 liter
    Si - 1.6 liter

    Engine Type
    GTI - 4 cyl SOHC 8v
    DX - 4 cyl SOHC 16v
    Si - 4 cyl SOHC 16v

    Fuel Delivery
    GTI - EFI
    DX - DPFI
    Si - MPFI

    Suspension
    GTI - F&R Ind Strut
    DX - F&R Ind Wishbone
    Si - F&R Ind Wishbone

    Brakes
    GTI - 244 disc/244 drum
    DX - 242 disc/181 drum
Si - 242 disc/181 drum (legal update to rear disc)

This is in my opinion another one of those unexplainable misses from "The Dark Ages." Why in the world would the DX not only be listed in ITA, but at 85lbs HEAVIER than the CRX si!?!?!?!
No way, no how, can anyboby give a reasonable explanation for that one.

Should I resubmit the request I submitted last year???

I'll look in my records tonight, but I think the ITAC/CRB has already addressed this car... and recommended some type of change.... Let me get back to you on this...

Nope... doesn't look like we've discussed that one officially yet, as I don't see it on the list...

Should I write a letter or has this been sufficient enough to get it put on the list???

Never hurts to write the letter.

You clearly make sense, but keep in mind that there are lots of cases like that. They have a few fish to fry, and the obvious ones will get the quickest attention, I would guess.

you may want to check your sources. The 1988 CRX Si had 105 hp and the other later Si's had 108. Not arguing your point but you don't want any reason for them to bouce your main idea.

    Hijack

compared to the GTI, the '85-87 CRX Si and '86-'87 Civic Si that are currently marooned in ITA look like good ITB candidates as well.

    HP
    GTI - 105
    CRX - 91

    Weight
    GTI - 2280
    CRX - 1980

    Power/weight
    GTI - 21.7
    CRX - 21.8

    Compression
    GTI - 10
    CRX - 8.7

    Displacement
    GTI - 1.8 L
    CRX - 1.5 L

    Engine Type
    GTI - 4 cyl SOHC 8V
    CRX - 4 cyl SOHC 12V

    Fuel Delivery
    GTI - EFI
    CRX - MPFI

    Suspension
    GTI - F&R Independent struts
CRX - Front struts on torsion bars, solid rear axle

If SCCA would move the 1st gen CRX/Civic Si to ITB at about 2100 lbs (where it's weight is currently set for competition with NASA in the Honda Challenge, and is little or no problem to make with little ballast) then the power/weight would be around 23.1, which is smack dab in ITB territory.

    whadda y'all thinks?

If we're basing it on Weight to Power:

    12A RX7 - 23.8 lbs/ hp

    strut/solid axle, etc. etc.

    WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE???

Hey, you won't get any argument from me on that, I think there are a lot of cars in the bottom 1/3 of ITA that should be considered for ITB with a weight adjustment, and B to C likewise....

Not any GTI I've ever seen. The A1, A2, and A3 cars all have beam axles in the rear.

Sorry, I just used the info provided in the first post, not having any more info than what had previously been posted and seeing the GTI at the front of the ITB pack on many occasions.

If the A1, A2, and A3 are as you say they are, then that only makes them more similar to the previously mentioned CRX and Civic.

Has anyone heard anymore on this? As someone who has an ITC Civic and is looking for a Civic DX, this move can greatly affect my decision making process. Thanks in advance for any new info.

At least you got your own class - Spec 7 or IT-7, depending on where you are.
