wow this was easy until i thought about it. i guess 1/4" is the smallest you can use. so you can use 1/2" but not 1/8". but I am not sure. I use 1/4" and it works great. keeps lots of crap out.
brakes duct sure, no reason why not.

Airdams are free, so its totally legal. I've gotten it from pegasus. They have a variety of sizes.

I opted for the "real" stuff from Pegasus, too. It's stainless and very tough. I've seen rocks go through 1/4" hardware cloth from the local store.

as others have said it is 1/4" hardware cloth and i have found it pretty tough. it is stetched tight and attached to 1/2 alum angle iron top and bottom and is about 9" in fron of the rad. it has worked well. it even kept a honda out a couple of weeks ago(g)

1/4" hardware cloth works well, but keep it several inches ahead of the radiator. Putting it closely ahead (1"+/-) of the radiator & you find the fins still get peened over.

Never found that the stuff from the hardware store was too weak, cones, tire walls & errant cars will most likely remove the expensive stuff too.
