    Default Legal Drivers Suit ????

I have a brand new Worth nomex two layer suit with-out a SFI patch. Is it still legal in SCCA? Hate to buy another just because of the patch. Help out a old racer with this info. Thanks DICK

I believe it is legal, but you will need to wear the underwear without the patch.

A patch is not required. Read the GCR. Depending on what it is made of, and how many layers, you may not need underwear.

If you read the GCR it specifies that you must have a SFI rated suit or a FIA homologated suit. Where the GCR gets fuzzy is that it says a FIA rated suit supercedes a SFI suit. Confused yet?
If this helps check out the www.ogracing.com website for sparco suits that are FIA homologated and carry the SFI 5 rating(meaning no nomex underwear is required).
    Hope that helps.

Actually, the GCR requires NEITHER an SFI tag NOR an FIA homologation - and the rules are not in the least fuzzy. Taking the word of someone selling suits seems like a great way to spend money but a lousy way to make a decision.

Homework is due at the beginning of class tomorrow - read and summarize s17.23.1, p. 137.
