    Default Strippers on track

    There was plenty of discussion about those who would remove safety gear after the end of a race while on the racing surface or in the hot pits. Some of us said we couldn't imagine that it was legal. But none of us could find anything saying it was not.

    Well, here is a rule covering belts:

    GCR 17.23.7: A driver's restraint system meeting SCCA standards (See section 20) shall be used at all times while on the track.

    Now, perhaps with a little more looking we'll find something covering other safety gear.

    LOL, my topic was under "nudists" and it got a fair amount of attention too. It was mentioned at the SE Div Stewards Seminar so dont be surprised if fines and other penalties are assessed for violations.
    I took the CS to the starter stand after one session and he was amazed at how many guys were waving at us as they drove by with bare hands(not the worst infraction I know but it still helps to explain the problem) Too many folk have been watching NASCAR

    Geo, why would you want to dig up this annoying soapbox topic yet again?

    If we follow this rule to its lunatic extreme then we must ban post-race checker-flag crew rides, giving shuttles to corner workers to the stations, and mandating GCR 17.23.7 restraints on all tow truck drivers while on the track.

    The fact that we don't enforce this rule to its extreme is de facto proof that its result is left to common sense. Since no where in the GCR is that common sense mandated except that the Chief Steward has final say in the running in the event, all this chest beating is pointless and annoying unless you are THE Chief Stew at THIS event. Just *A* Chief Stew, or portraying one on TV, doesn't give you the responsibility anywhere else.

    I'm all for not getting killed or hurt on the track, but it seems that virtually everyone going head-over-nuts on this issue is someone that wants to force this idea on everyone ELSE, and is very much willing to step up to the soapbox to give anecdotal evidence about how it might hurt someone else, and 'OF COURSE I would NEVER consider doing this myself'!!!

    The day that each of you agree to ban ALL on track movement unless a GCR 17.23.7 restraint is used in all cases is the day I'll stop getting annoyed at the chest-beating, hypocrisy, and finger-pointing. Comments such as "with a little more looking we'll find something" to justify our position makes it even more so annoying.
