    Default re-sized heater core

OK, we have to keep a heater core in the car. The heater core (when actually connected) functions as a radiator. We're permitted to change the size of a radiator. So, if the heater core in a given car is more than just present, but actually hooked up (thus functioning as a type of radiator), can that heater core be replaced with one of a different size?

A very creative interpretation. However, when push comes to shove, you and I both KNOW this is not the intent of the rule - especially when all mention of the 'radiator' is within the confines of the engine bay...

"Heater core and hoses shall not be removed" superceeds as it is specifically spelled out. No dice.

No offense to Eric here but I continue to wonder why anyone who 'knows' the intent of a rule would try and bypass it.

Yea I know... Actually, what I was getting at was the possibility of INCREASING the size of the heater core. The 1st tier goal being only to gain cooling capacity without increasing the front-mounted radiator capacity.

    Are hoses free?

Isn't aluminum one of the worlds better heat sinks? See where I'm going here?

Aluminum tubes would be lighter, also!

I don't think manufacturers change the size of the heat exchanger part of the heater between A/C and non A/C models. Usually it is just the shape of the connections.

Interesting idea, Jake. That's a within-the-intent kind of solution that even a NERD like me can appreciate...

OR... you could just realize that, by the time you spend the money and energy trying to figure this out, it would have been more cost effective AND thermally effective to just get a more efficient radiator! (Which, by the way, does NOT necessarily mean BIGGER...)

You guys just enjoy the challenge of skirting the rules, don't you?

AND, I don't know why anyone would want to introduce any more heat to the drivers compartment...

    Have fun!
