I hope something good comes of it, but it's hard for me to get excited about it.

I guess I've lost all my youthful optimism.

I can't help but feel that those with the money and political clout will always be the winners in this organization and the rest of us are just here to provide amusement for them.

Or, maybe it's just because I dumped a cup of coffee in my lap on my way to work this morning.

Well, those with money will always have an advantage in racing. As for the clout or influence, I think we are seeing the beginnings of changes to the culture at SCCA. I know the ITAC has a very broad range of experience and background and seems pretty open minded to me, even though we don't reinvent IT with every letter. A change was made to the CB earier this year IIRC to shed a member who was reported to be somewhat less than open minded. The club is now recognizing comp licenses from other organizations.....

I think Steve Johnson is really working hard to make the SCCA something better and I think we are starting to see signs of change. Not everything will change over night and not everything needs to be changed.

I personally think the future looks bright, but I admit I've not been a member for 20 years. I've just seen good signs this year.

Geo, the following info is not to start a pi$$ing match with you. It's just a point to back up what some people beleive about the SCCA CRB & or BoD.

I have written & sent (7/28/203)a memo to the CenDiv area 4 & area 5 BoD members & because of ZERO response I have resent the memo TWO more times (9/8/2003 & 10/29/2003)with ZERO response. I have asked the BoD memebers if they are not the correct people to send the question to. I am about to resend the memo for a fouth time. This time it will be sent to the same CenDiv area 4 BoD member & the new CenDiv area 5 BoD member.

This is total disrespect from the BoD members & they should be REMOVED NOW. If you think the statement harsh about removing them think about how long you would last at your professional job functing in the same manner with your customer.

ps: I did 5 double Regionals & two single Regionals during year 2003. IMHJ that makes me a GOOD paying customer of the SCCA. I have completed 34 Regionals races in my 4 years as a SCCA driver member.

This is an interesting twist. When Basil Adams was 'fired' , ummm ...removed from the CB, he retaliated anominously with a slanderous tome called "16 Stories" that attempted to seek revenge on the CB. Much of it was trumped up nothings, but Gary Pitt responded with a letter to the other Directors asking for the installation of Basil Adams as Chairman of the CB, and removal of current Chairman Kurt Weiss.

While nothing came of that at the time, I wonder if there isn't a latent desire to 'shake things up'.....

Kurt has held 'the toughest job in SCCA' for a while now, and I know he's set a finite timeline for his Chairmanship.

This move is one that I will keep my eye on.

    Jake,

Was it ever confirmed that Basil wrote "16 Stories"? I know several people speculated that he wrote it, but I didn't see anywhere that it was confirmed that he was the author (but I might have missed it).
