Hoosier R3S-03/4 224/45-13 on 13 x 6 Wheels

I've got an ITC Scirocco, haven't raced for a few years, and am trying to select a tire.

From what I gather, the Hoosier 225/45-13 is the "hot setup". But I'm bothered by the Hoosier specs recommending an 8"-9" wheel for this tire. The one time I've run a tire on a rim that far below specs the steering response was AWFUL. Admittedly that was on a bias Hoosier which is a very different tire, but it really made an impression!

I've run the 205/60-13 Hoosier, it was fast, felt great, but car sat high and gearing could be better.

Has anyone on the board driven the 225/45-13 Hoosier radial on 6" rims? Was the response/feel OK? Thanks!

We run 225/45 Hoosiers on 13" Panasports on our IT7 car and the steering is no more painful than with BFG R1s 205/45s.

Just wanted to point out that 225/45 tires will be be worse than 225/50 tires on a 6" rim. With less sidewall, the contact patch will be less square. You may find that the actual contact patch will be not any better than the 205/60 tires you were using.

The new Hoosiers have extremely stiff sidewalls. Be prepared to piss off your tire mounting guy!

BTW, I've ordered a set of 205-60/13 Hoosiers which are spec'd for 7"-8" wheels. I'm mounting them on 6" wheels and I'm concerned too. They work ok, wish I could run a 7" wheel for them.

With the 205/60-13s, (older R3S02s)& 6x13 I was very happy with the steering response and lap times compared to Yokohamas and Kumhos. But so few people run them in IT that I suspect that it's not the optimum Hoosier.

I'm interested in this also (225/45ZR13) on an ITC Honda with 6" wide tires. The main reason I'm looking to do this is for changing the drive ratio. I'm not too concerned with added contact patch (as long as I'm not losing any)

Anyone else running them with luck?

But in IT7 you run 7" rims....correct?????

Wanted to point out a 205/50 will have a sidewall height of 4.035", a 225/45 3.986"--that is only a .049" difference in ride height. The gearing will be less than .5% different. (7000rpms will now be 7035rpms)

Of course the 205/50 might actually spec as a 209/47 and the 225/45 a 221/46...so check with Hoosier for exact sizes if you are concerned.

Not really. The actual diameter difference is about 2" or about a 10% change in gearing. 7000rpm will be about 7700 rpm.

There isn't a 2" diameter difference between a 205/50-13 and a 225/45-13. There is a 2" difference between a 205/60-13 and a 225/45-13.

I don't know if Hoosier ever made a 205/50 as their website only lists a 205/60...perhaps you knew that, but Al said he ran a 205/50 before.

I've run 225/45-13 hoosiers (old style)on my ITC scirocco with 6" BBS rims without too much trouble. However, I had some other 6" rims that the hoosier tire guys could not mount the tires on due to the way the rims were made.
You may want to test one before making the investment. good luck
