Hey Swift faithful- how is the season going? Are the cars staying reliable? I always drool over the spec line in the GCR, and am tempted to build one, but I keep hearing horror stories about weak...
Thanks much guys. Good tip on the water pump- I've never had the lower cover off, so I didn't realize how easy it is to get to. We had some overheat problems last year, but I blamed it on the crummy...
What, nobody's ever replaced a timing belt tensioner on a 3G Civic? C'mon......
Help please!
I think we've been through this one before, but I can't find the old thread. I'm getting ready to replace the timing belt and tensioner on our ITC Civic (1.5L CVCC)- it's skipped on me twice now, and...
My thoughts: "Rebuilding the head might cause the rings to leak?" I don't see the logic there, unless you figure your head is absolutely toast, and you're making zero power.
You say you're down on...
Sounds like a vacuum leak. Check every hose you have left, and check to make sure the ones you plugged are really plugged (I JB Weld mine AND use vacuum caps zip-tied on). It's possible to get a leak...
Most people just use the stock little gas strut thingees- I don't think the GCR lets you modify the hatch or the glass in any way. I'm sure somebody in Sport Compact Car sells neon struts, though-...
Obscenities. Lots of obscenities.
1. Always bore or hone with a plate to simulate the effect of the cylinder head and bolts. A nice piece of 1/2" plate with some holes milled /drilled in it works well. If you're really cool, you do...
Maybe this belongs in the classifieds, but does anybody have a solid body 3rd Gen Civic that would be cheap enough to use as a starting point for a race car? I'm looking at buying a well-sorted ITC...
I don't have a GSR manual in front of me, and you do, but that 270 must be a typo. That's alot, and a range of 140-270 is WAY too big. I can think of two (non Honda) engines with 9.9:1 factory...
Running the gas cap "1-click-on" can make for a nice little fuel geyser if you've got a venting problem. Tech guys are even less amused when you douse them in flammable liquids.
I tried that once...
You guys are all way too technical- making tools and stuff. This is how we shady shade tree mechanics do it:
Rotate the engine to about 20 degrees before #1 TDC firing. Wait until your wife goes...
The car had a stumble before, but that was a known fuel problem that the previous owner had warned us about (hence the change to the cell etc, and it cured the left-hand corner problems). The car is...
Stumble is a polite word- the car just flat out hits a brick wall and won't rev any higher. You can roll in and out of the throttle, and it'll rev back up to 4500, but that's it. Once in a while,...
If I swap over to an Si pan, do I need the Si oil pick-up as well? I have an Si parts car, but it's not here at my house, so I don't know how different the two pans are....
Anybody running the Pacesetter header for the 3G Civic Si? I need a replacement for our mangled 4-1 header, and the price is right ($130) on the PaceSetter tri-Y.
Actually, we run in ITC with the...
Race cars aren't supposed to have an emergency brake, unless you need one to make minimum weight http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif .

We run stock honda pads, and ditto on the adjustment! They may not do much or wear much, but if you don't get them right, you'll know it at the end of the front straight as those little 150 100 50...
Ed- try www.hondata.com- they may only do B16A and /or VTEC ECU's though. If the sensor inputs are the same, and these hacked ECU's are adjustable enough, you might be able to just rewrite the fuel...
My top few ideas, and they're more gneral than Civic specific (These are reliable cars as a general rule):
1. How many times has it been on its head?
2. Get leakdown and compression numbers, as...
Ours isn't hooked up, and I can't recall seeing anybody else's hooked up either. Our carb is no prize, but I've checked some of the faster guys, and they don't use it either. Not sure which gray area...
Maybe it's as simple as "Nobody's ever asked." That gen Civic Si isn't classed either, and there's tons of those that could fit in ITA.
If you do get it classed, I doubt that it will be in C....
Maybe there's an IT tribologist out there that will refute me, but there's no such thing as a "pure" synthetic in the dictionary sense of the word pure- they all have a little bit of dinosaur in them...
Don't remove the driveshaft from the hub- getting that nut off can be a bear of a job the first time, and there's enough play once you get the spindle loose that you can pull the shaft out by...
