I think you hit on at least part of it. If any fluid from the rear is putting force on the front pads, and you block that off, you're having the same effect as reducing the master cylinder diameter...

Then your cage is probably bent too, right? So you'll not only have to remove it from the old car, try to straighten it, install it in the new car.

It was a bolt in cage that I had welded in the old car. THen I cut it apart and put it in the new car, but realizes how stupid that was. On the good side, I had a ball doin all that welding!

I transfered the old Saftey Devices cage from my wrecked ITC Scirocco to an ITB 86 chassis, but don't like the way I did it.
Anyone have any recomendations for manufacturers of weld in cage kits?...

First off, get the car timed properly. getting an engine running by timing it by ear is one thing, for performance you need a timing light.
What revs is it bogging down at?
Open exhaust or stock?...

I've always used Mobil 1 synthetic grease and never had an issue on my A1.
Maybe the races aren't installed right. Your not re-using the same races, are you?

If your oil pump was dry...
Is there a pick up tube that goes into the pump that could not be sealing right (sucking air)?
Otherwise, I'd check what drives the pump.

I had done this on my ITC Scirocco, using both front ports to the front calipers, plugged 1 rear, used the other through a knob type and tee'd to the rear. Ended up cranking the thing all the way up...

no. I think they're doing a good job with keeping the rules creep to a minimum, and even though some of this stuff doiesn't make sense, the line has to be drawn somewhere.
