Tom, the rear four link pick up points on the tub were moved up. also the rear subframe was changed to add travel to the rear.
The only thing i can find is, all the first gen's with 12a's were bunched into one group
that the curb weight was 2345 lbs. and one's with an automatic were 2380 lbs.
As was stated the sun roof...

Stuck in two gears, shear pin broken, clutch hub slider springs broken,worn shift fork and
one of the clutch hubs has gone over center.
What happened, didn't get to go this year, Results????

There is a gasket that fits under there, but your problem is the trans. has too much
oil in it.
you should only fill the trans to where you can just touch the fluid with the tip of your finger with...

in years past i did a lot of dyno testing at mandeville auto tech on 12a's and what we found was
if you are using the mazda ing. there was no real gain in horse power using the msd's.

you might try and swap your tach pick up from your lead coil pack to the trailing coil pack.
and see if your tach still works properly.
we have run into this in the past, the engine...
