I'm in for the weekend!
.... and I don't dispute that it's there for a reason. The problem is, you're falling into the trap of adding a cage bar for the simple reason that a completely different type of car uses it.. and...
A diagonal bar across the windshield would be one of the last bars I'd add. I can think of about 10 other bars that'd give better results.
From FEA that I've seen, you're better off making a...
to a goofy rewrite of a rule that really didn't need it. Make something overly complex when it comes to safety. Cage looks great!
Thanks Earl. I knew I hadn't dreamt it up ;) My version of Acrobat is corrupt so I was happy to be able to find what I did.
Seriously, they need to fix what they tried to fix. They left out some...
9.4.5.E.6. (I think... I suck at following that BS) I'll have to dig for the AWS code, but can guarantee that it's against the code to grind a weld, but for now, this'll have to do:
6. Welding...
On the roll cages section, I'd also add that all welds must be 360 degrees around the tube and no grinding of any welds allowed. Both of those are often overlooked.
A few weeks ago, I teched an...
Lot's of things to consider when downgrading a cage.
When you cut the forward bars out (no bars are allowed to pass through the firewall-attached or not ;) ), make sure that the remaining pads...

IIRC, the "may extend one tube" rule wasn't a problem until they actually added wording 2 (?) years ago. If you look right above it at the AS rules, I think thats where it comes from. AS must have...
Health insurance, mortgage or race entry.... hmmmm. Just not in the cards this time which sucks.
Sheesh... nothing like getting rid of useful info!
Sleeves are not bad. They are used quite often in structural repair and IIRC, there's a diagram in the GCR about sleeving.
If you're concerned about the length of the weld, then notch the sleeve...
Again, pics will clear up a lot. Yes, you can weld a bolt in together.
Kinda depends on the joint, access to the joint, prep of the metal etc.
Is it already bolted in the car, or is this a fresh install?
Any pics?
Thanks for the nod Travis, but I know very little about Gen 2 7's. I told Charlie about as much as I could when we put the cage in. Basically it was that he wouldn't go wrong with Koni's if a set...
:D That's probably what most people said when NASA first started ;)
Can I ask why you're reinventing the wheel here? I'm all for building your own stuff - when it makes sence. The developement has already been done by companies that more than likely dyno tested every...
IT7 is based on the general IT rules. IT7 is for 79-85 1st Gen RX7's that are normally classed in ITA, just competing against other RX7s.
Not sure if your "1989" was a typo or not... but you'll...

Tom, pics will do wonders. Depends on the structure in the area that you're planning on mounting to.
David, I think we can all agree that on most chassis', the "floor" is not the best place to...
Optima Red Top Group 35 battery RED35: Weight 31.7
Weight is supposed to be 2350?, so required tube is now 1.5x.095 correct? (been a while since I've caged anything "light" for SCCA) My guess is that the cage may be overbuilt with heavier tubing....
