Have been wanting to go watch a race at Laguna Seca. Looks like this year will be the perfect time to go.
Best of Luck :happy204:
We'll be cheering for you guys - hopefully the Corrado will still keep shaking things up in ITS also!
So how did the testing go at VIR? You ready to rock out in Daytona? We'll be watching :026:
The car has real potential We have a few things to iron out including the team!
Anyone have an extra $20,000 laying around? Daytona will be a test of the team as much as anything.
As far as VIR goes, we're right there. If you discount the illegal Cobalt from last year the VW would have been right there. :023:
Looks like the GTI is back! So go dig our all your old GTI shirts and hats and get ready to wave the flag again. :cavallo:
Best of luck with the program Bill. See you in Daytona Wed.
Good job, Bill...
Keep your head down out there. I'm preaching to the choir but there's a lot of potential hurdles for a new effort to clear in a series like GAC, that have NOTHING to do with driving skill, preparation, or organization. (see also, ILLEGAL COBALT; SANDBAGGING; OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT; REWARDS WEIGHT, and BOB STRETCH).

Good luck down there guys, ill watch your runs online.
Damn if all you need is 20K your alright, here's to hoping this GTI thing sticks around! Good luck, :OLA:
Definitely Cool! Good luck!
I heard that the GTI was involved in a pretty bad accident? Is that true?
Hope not and hope the driver is ok.
practice notes from yesterday indicate the car went off in T3 and the driver was taken to medical but ok. T&S has no times for the GTI - listed in last place for today's race
The notes are vauge but since the GTI had not run a session since P1 I think it was done for the weekend. I wish they had audio for the practice and qualifing. Giavones/Moorcones also didnt run in qual but where out there in P2 so I wonder if they had another mechancial problem.
I stand corrected, the teamp posted times in P3, so they may still be in the race.
Lewis was throwing down some good lap times in the 2:12's with 2:10's being the top ST lap times.
Hope all goes well and they make it to the show.. :)

well they started b the race, currently 22nd in class. Only sucky thing is the live audio isnt working for me.
It's not exactly riveting coverage...you might not be missing too much.
It looks like the reprts have the GTI making significant contact in practive 1, and the driver, Nuzzo being transported to halifax for observation. THey missed practice 2, and ran in 3, 3.2 seconds or so off the fast runner. But missed qualifying, It looks like Nuzzo wasn't cleared to drive, as the driver listing for the car shows Lewis and Danny Alvis as the drivers.
In ralated IT news, Anthony Serras team, Davis Acura has a car that started 2nd with Bob Endicott posting the fast time. Serras in the race as well, currently running 36th i ST.
THe GTI is up to 21st in ST.
giovanes and moorcones (paul from radial tire) and in 29th but well off the front runners pace. I cannot get the audio feed at work, likely its block.
T&S is showing 1st at the 1 hour to go mark
hmm... from 2nd to 15th to off the T&S feed in less than a lap. Something happened
61 laps only three laps down for the first time out? We, of course, require a full report, Bill.

Well it certainly looks tough enough...

Note inside rear off the ground in standard Rabbit "pissing on fire hydrant" stance... ;)
So even with the IRS the fatty swaybar picks up the inner rear. Hmm, I wonder if 1500lb springs would work and allow the inner rear to stay on the ground?
It does look tough
I thought 3 wheels is faster than 4 ?
The car looks great guys !!!!

IT ??
The car does look tough, and the 3-wheel stance brings a nostalgic tear to my eye!!! :smilie_pokal:
Heh heh thanks guys... Tough huh? :P
>> Note inside rear off the ground in standard Rabbit "pissing on fire hydrant" stance..

Well it's not all that it apears to be. With the IRS we would like to see the rear wheels stay on teh ground far more than they do with the beam axle cars. Unfortunately we've run out of droop on the rear shocks! So it's the lack of travel that is causing this. Now having said that we will be testing twice before Homestead and after we alter the rears to get more travel we will be trying stiffer rear bar settings nad more rebound damping...both of which may pick the wheel back up again....but it's not desired. However I did note that even the fastest TSX and RSX cars lifted the rear in the hairpins. It really isn't a huge deal with FWD....as you all know.
>> Hmm, I wonder if 1500lb springs would work and allow the inner rear to stay on the ground?
They'd have to be sooo long and the rear would ride sky high in a straight line. But who's to say we dont have 1500# springs? Afterall our RSX buddies run 3000# rear springs.
Building this car is MUCH easier than building an IT car. The rules are really simple. By the way, the car has ImprovedTouring.com decals on the side windows. :026:
If anyone is considering a new GTI for a street car, do it! The car is miles apart from the A4 chassis cars. It's really a good car right out of the box.

:023: Nice Stickers, and I love the car!!! It is great to see the success, and I can't wait for the first podium!!!
Raymond "Can I be a back up driver?" Blethen
Great job Bill!! Exciting stuff!! :023:
On a side note, when are you going to post the picture you took of the Beverly Hillbillies scale set-up at the ARRC?
You know I'm not sure where those pics went...
Someday I'll stumble across them.
awesome job! ima moron, tho, i went to speedtv to see you guys race on sat. :P not knowing the the ST class ran at a separate time!! will there be TV coverage of the GTI in action?
also, if you need extra hands for events that are close to western pa, or help in the shop, let me know, i am off work during the summer months and am located right up 79 from cranberry.
Speed hasn't listed an air date for the race broadcast yet
Congrats on your sucess, looking forward to seeing that car at the front of the grid and on the podium!!!!
Who knows, maybe VWoA will realize that motorsports is a valuable marketing tool! :bash_1_: :dead_horse:
Bill - you are right on in regards to this being a great street car. We picked up a 4 door GTI in September. I was never sold on the look of the new car, but driving it is another story. :eclipsee_steering:

Looks like you were right on target. Looks like SCCA is going to be having a GTI cup

Bill not only are they doing a cup race (support for WC and ALMS) but they are also offering a contingency program again.
