In general I agree with everyone's comments and concepts regarding renting vs. owning but I don't think the guy you rent a car from, assuming that is what he does for a living, is doing it for the love of racing. For example, unless Matt works for free he must be paid for his time and labor vs. when you own and do your own work your labor is more like "sweat equity".
