FIA seat expiration???

Is there an expiration or recertification for FIA seat homologation?

Probably. (One of the British manufacturers lost its homologation this year).

What would happen if your FIA-homologated seat loses its homologation?

Replace it with one that is homologated or add a seat brace and keep using it.

There's a change to seat homologation listed in the November FasTrack, but I don't recall the details.

I couldn't find any reference to FIA listing of seats in the new Fastrack...

From the FIA web site...

All the occupants' seats must be either original, modified only through the addition of accessories with a registered trademark, or homologated by the EEC, the FMVSS or the FIA (8855/1999 standard), and not modified.
For seats in compliance with 8855/1999 FIA standard, the limit for use is 5 years from the date of manufacture indicated on the mandatory label.

The SCCA rules don't expressly say that FIA seats must be within a certain age and I've never heard of someone getting bounced because their tag is too old. If this happens, it would be necessary to either (a) buy a new seat, or (B) install a back brace.

As Kirk stated when the five years is up add a seat back brace or buy a new seat.
Corbeau lost FIA homologations on two or three of its seats but not the whole product line. King Dragon also lost homologation on a couple of its seats. Check the back issues of Fasttrack for the exact models and certification numbers.

So they expire in five years? So what? So does fuel cell certification, and probably suits too. Anything FIA certified is probably good for 5 years, but that is ignored in the SCCA?

Thank you for the responses. Whereas the harnesses have an explicit expiration in the GCR, the seats did not. Someone mentioned to me three years which I knew couldn't be right. If by FIA regulation the certification is only good for 5 years the conclusion that after 5 years you need a brace makes sense as then technically the seat is no longer FIA certified. The conclusions reached here are sensible to me and not contrary to the GCR as far as I can tell.
