im just wondering where is a good place to get a roll cage for my 240z in its? i have heard tons of opinions, but none from people who race z's. most people say a autopower cage because they are cheap and well made. what do you guys think?

Best cage I've seen, in quality and design for a 240z is from Walt Puckett in Shelby NC....704-434-8046.....I'd stick with a weld in cage for the thin skinned 240z flexy flier...

I concur with David and Keith. Another good cage builder is Robinson Racing or Richard Martin, both in Atlanta. Read that article too.
Don't go with a bolt in cage in a 240z.
I like the gussets Scott put in his RX7. My first z's cage had those.

I run a modified Autopower cage. The standard Autopower cage is well built, but I added a crosstube and forward tubes to the firewall, and an extra tube across the passenger door. The only thing I dislike is that it doesn't mount far enough forward (through the dash. that's why I added the forward tubes)

oh boy, thanks for all the recommedations. im located in the east bay, california. so i think that limits the amout of places that can fabricate a cage for me. i might have to buy the autopower unit and modify it like itz34 said.
Doesn't the Autopower cage still mount both the main hoop and rear legs to the rear fender well? If so, then they may be illegal next year if the rumors I have heard are true. All main hoops will have to mount to the floor.
The guy who bought my old 280 has since retired it and bought a Honda since he didn't want to re-cage the 280....
If that's the case, that'd be the dumbest rule ever considered. Lets hope they put a little more thought into it than that.Quote:

It would make a 944 cage absolutely dangerous. The rocker on a 944 gets very wide behind the driver's seat and the main hoop would have to bend in so far that it would be absolutely dangerous. It would certainly preclude me from ever racing in SCCA with my 944.

Here on the "left coast", two local cage builders that come recommeded are:
TC Designs http://www.tcdesignfab.com/ in the bay area, and
and Jason Hoover Motorsports (530)677-5752 in Sacramento.

Personally, I never considered the Autopower cage all that strong when I put it in the car in the first place in 1989.
Both the main hoop and the rear legs mount to the front of the rear inner fender which would take all the load of both in a rollover.
I've got a 240 with a bolt in cage of unknown manufacturer that has the main hoop to the floor pan, and the rear legs go to just about the same position on the inner fender.
well considering that a custom cage might cost upwards of 2000 dollars i have no clue what to do. it seems like an autopower is almost worthless.
