The IT7 Crew is waiting as well. Apparently we are taking the show on the road. The schedule works out to one race a month at some pretty cool tracks.

Cant wait to get scared at LRP in the tunnel with no roof.

They are in NH,CT,VT you need to look, and not that hard either. 6 have passed thru my hands in the last year.

Trying to get my hands on another one now. To match the spare in the garage, not the rental, nor the 77 car.

There are no bugs anywher near my house.

We drive RX7s, what are you saying. Of course you can hang. Dont bring the bike though. That could end badly for all parties involved.

Hopefully we can order better weather for that weekend. The snow was a bit much. 2 inches does terrible things to a canopy.

Dave, My girls will be there as well. You and I will be in the same group. Im positive my girls will be happy to teach him what not to do at a race track during our sessions. Puddles, Tires, rocks etc

Bring your son, It will work itself out. Jaime and aunt Kim and others will all be there and we can watch him for the times we are all on track.

Friday: 16 minute qualifying sessions groups 1‐8; lunch break; afternoon: 12 lap or 15 minute qualifying sprints

Sat: 15 laps or 18 minute Regional races groups 1‐8 with grid set by fastest lap in either Friday qualifying; lunch break; then 15 laps or 18 minute Regional races with grid set by morning qualifying race finish position. This seems odd to me. Why wouldn't Sat's am race be set by the 14 min qual sprint? Then those results be used for Sat's pm race.

For the pm race, is that determined by the fri qual sprint? Or the Sat am race?

Overall, cool format! Like the several different race sessions and keeping them fairly short but not so much so.

Saturday AM race set by Sprint, but by time, not position...why? Because you can't RACE on Fridays...

Sat PM race set by finish position of RACE Sat AM.

Original track charter. along with not allowing the Criminal Element/Hells Angels aka Bikes to race at Lime Rock

Things set in place in another time, still in place because "Its always been that way"

lateapex911
05-31-2013, 05:44 PM
Well, lime rock IS in peoples back yards and it IS about 500' from main straight to a church, so....
When they agreed to allow events there, they came up with restrictions, which are essentially permanent that the track agreed to.

There have been many revisits of that agreement, but the local courts have help pretty firm.

The beauty of an IT7 is that once it works it stays working.

Unfortunatly that creates laziness, and that translates directly to entering.

I know we are all planning on attending with the exception of the To Hot Too Handle 62, Im still rebuilding that one.

We should have 7, and if Norm and Madison show that bumps the number to 9. No Special guest this week in the #7 car.

Taggart, Jim ITR 2006 Lotus Exige Taggart Autosport, Krugspeed Racing Cary, NC

Cary, NC – Among thousands of competitors...Jim Taggart...named the 2012 National SCCA Rookie of the Year.
Competing in a Lotus Exige in the STU class, Taggart qualified for the National Championship Run Offs
at Road America and won the Hard Charger award, finishing 6th and starting 22nd. For 2013, he plans a
Championship bid at the Run Offs and has also moved up to the pro ranks, competing in the Pirelli World

Registrations are strong.

202 total at this point. SM leading with 26 entries, 18 for SM2, followed by ITA at 16, SRF at 15 and so forth. Surprising stronger than usual is EP at 10 entries!

Now, if we can get SM double dippers to stop cancelling their registrations for ITA/S, that would be nice.

You sure? I heard that both parents have to sign; they can sign in front of the registrar, but if one's missing the other has to have a notarized signature? I don't know the details, I've just seen the confusion in line...

It is always better to bring it signed by both. There seems to be some discretion . I have signed for my son alone, but reading it to the letter of the doc, it does require both.

Interesting language though at the end implies that you do not need to have it notarized:

Link from yesterday.....looked like he never even hit the turn 1 apex...FV was not too far right of the escape road. Scary...I am 67,can no longer run due to an injury...but walk ever day...summer and winter..try to keep my weight reasonable. He was 70...don't know about his conditioning or weight...but we all know it was warm yesterday...add nomex, plus driver suit,balaclave,hemet..blah,blah...if you don't try to stay in shape and exercise......hell,180bph pulse...or whatever we get up to under driving stress, plus heat, increased blood pressure....who the hell knows! Cause of death not released yet, other than impact(obviously)...guess we may learn more later.

People make the comment...at least he dies doing what he loved. I would rather go after a nice dream in my sleep.

BruceG

should have also said that it could have been a steering or suspension failure...perhaps not enough time to get on the brakes.

BruceG

BTW:..first run group for FV,F500,NCF..the deceased,Jeff Bower was the slowest driver in the field...the only slower time was John A's F500 that crashed...and newbie F500 driver Ryan Soucy(thru no fault of his own). his first race in his new car...and the C clip on the right rear wheel broke...wheel and hub exited his car...Lap 1,turn 2.....felt so bad for him! Nice, smart guy who will be a great addition to their field.

Just one more though..all small formula cars have tiny nose pods....hell...I couldn't even get my feet onto the pedals in my F500 unless I was wearing racing shoes..and that had no clutch...LOL.

It might be possible for a driver to downshift his VEE going into turn 1...and get his left foot caught under the brake pedal..hence head on into the tire barrier.

Bruce,
I have no idea what happened to Jeff as I decided to skip Lime Rock and wasn't there, but his particular chassis has a very wide pedal box and your scenario would have been very unlikely. Anyway, he'd be braking while downshifting so his foot would have to be on the pedal, not under it.

Thanks,Rob for your informed opinion. Everyone was thinking heart attack.....if he lost a front suspension piece or steering, might he still be able to brake enough to at least hit sideways, instead on straight on in...it is surely a puzzle...perhaps, the State Police, who were there for hrs were able to reconstruct his path, etc

As Victor said in ITA..... It was close in race one between Mickey and Brian but I think the second race Prod traffic snuffed Mickey's chances of catching him. As always, Brian ran a smart race

In race two, Abhi and Chris were swapping positions for third and fourth. But on the last lap they come together in the up hill an both went into the wall. Lots of damage to both. I think we need video to determine exactly what happened.

Times were 1:03s

interesting Race 1 in Big Bore. A Mustang II Cobra went wide coming out of Big Bend then hooked it across the track into the tires on the inside. Looks like he had some damage. Corner workers pushed him out, he started to pull behind the wall, then changed his mind and ended up going back onto the racing surface right in front of the leaders. Wish I had video because it was kinda crazy. I'm sure he got a stern talking to when he came in.

Coolest car of the weekend was a Lotus running STU and some other class (he was in with the ITS/R/B cars) It was fast!! Another cool car was the Subaru BRZ. Having driven one the day before in the PDX, and seeing how it ran in the races, I'm guessing it will be the car to have in T4

Not only "balked", but actively "blocked" by the red/white car (maybe that guy didn't know he was a leader coming through?) Jon drove quite well; had that not happened he would have won the race.

It was good to see Jeff Lawton in the paddock. It's been too long.

Morning Race summary: Started 12th in group, 5th in class with a qual time of 1:04.5. Track seemed slow in general on Friday. Finished 7th in group, 2nd in class. I passed Chris Raffaelli at the start. Brian Blizzard passed Wendell Holmes, who made contact with a Yellow EP Honda S2000 at the end of Big Bend. Wendell out. Eventually passed Abhi in no name and on the next lap Abhi tries a pass on the inside of turn 1, pinches his car and spins out (double 360's) and thankfully with no contact. Now running in second place behind Blizzard, we fight traffic and I could not get a clean to pass him, but could of should of... blah blah. I had fastest time of the class, 1.02.5, followed by Brian Blizzard at 1.03.3. Well deserved hand shake to Brian, nothing but a good race!!!

Do you have a smart phone? Many of us use Race Monitor for "real-time" and past event results. Of course, story telling on it.com is more fun :)

I do but never realized the software had a history option. I always thought that you could only see what was live or just finished.

StephF

You can access history two ways. During the event, select the "i" in the top and ask for race results. You can then selct which group and race you want.
After the event, you can select race results on the front page and go back and find them that way.

In race two, Abhi and Chris were swapping positions for third and fourth. But on the last lap they come together in the up hill an both went into the wall. Lots of damage to both. I think we need video to determine exactly what happened.

Sorry about the trials and troubles Ahbi. It sucks for you, in general all involved and the ITA group as a whole. Chris' rocker panel didn't look too pretty either. I left LRP in a rush knowing I had to go upstate just to go to NYC again in the same evening otherwise I could have stopped by the trailer in B paddock to talk.

From your video it looks like you were holding your line though it is tough to tell when you are cresting over the hill due to the loss of reference points. Did Chris have video? Did anyone behind you have video of the race? What did the corner workers have to say?

You needed to be a lot more aggressive with the RX7 after race one. You did nothing wrong and got punted out of the way.

I was on the outside and saw the whole deal unfolding early. Chose to stay wwaaaayyyy wide and see if you could save it. Till he hit you a second time. Then it was game over.

Glad it wasent serious and you got a thrird in race 2. Good job

I'm sure the car could be eligible with proper weight. There are some nice machines on the ITR list in GCR.

If it's a straight Exige then it's normally aspirated. But I'm baffled as to why a chassis not even classified would be allowed to run.

Having said that, maybe the paperwork is 'in process'. 177hp in the 2000-2003 cars then an ITR weight might be about 2540 (add for DW IRC).

190hp cars could get in at about 2720...

Any insight?

It actually ran in ITR?!?!?! I assumed it was an STU car. Whats with all the Loti just running anywhere they want? (Thinking about that one in NJ for the enduro, it was a Loti, wasn't it?? )

awegrzyn
06-25-2013, 01:09 AM
There was no turbo in Lotus Exige. Supercharged only.
The Lotus at Lime Rock was a 2006 car. That is not 177hp, but 190.

At 2720 that would be 702lbs (minus driver) of ballast.

Nice to see newer cars in ITR.

Perhaps the guy came from far away and they allowed him to double dip in ITR. Don't know.

All I'm saying the car could fit into ITR if it fix it's insane weight problem somehow, but I don't know if that's even possible. That thing weights like 2000 lbs out of the dealer.

The only way it 'fit's' in ITR is AT those weights. IT is basically a power to weight class with some tweaks for outlying physical attributes. You start with 190hp and rwd, you are going to be in that neigborhood regardless of what the original weight of the car was.

I would hope (and am sure) that tehy would not let him just run as an ITR car because he came from far away and wanted to double dip.
Here's why:
A top well developed car in ITR is a BMW E36. IT is specified to weigh at 2680 (or thereabouts?) so that it can compete with other similar cars, based on it's known race trm hp and other physical characteristics. It had 189 hp stock, IIRC.
So, if a car comes in with the same stock power, how fair would it be to throw it in to ITR to race against guys who have ballasted their cars to 2680, when teh car in question weighs 2000??

If I you were the BMW guy, wouldn't you be ripping mad if they did that??

I read someplace, and I think it maybe was Dick P who said it, but they decided to allow him to double dip in ITR but that he would receive no points for it.
I don't know if they would use the normal amount of points for second or if second place would get the same amount they would for a win?
I guess if the car is driven well, doesn't impact the other cars in class then I can understand the logic of allowing it once, but not on a regular basis.
That was a gorgeous car.

It was not me Steph. I don’t know anything about the Lotus. That said a non-compliant car cannot beat a compliant car. If the guy gets no points or trophies and the Stewards do not think the guy will screw up anyone’s race I can live with it.
Maybe we need a class call DNFAE (does not fit anywhere else) at regionals.

Jerry I was being a bit tongue and cheek however the problem with your examples is SPO and ITE tends to be in the big bore group which may not be right for a lot of cars and SPU requires GT or Prod safety gear.
I am not sure it is worth the trouble but if we had an IT safety level catch all class in each of the race groups then they could just stick these oddballs in the group where they fit best.

'Nother good point. The speed differential between me in my Integra and Jack Busch in his GT-1 car (and John Branscombe in the SPO) was...well, let's call it "noticeable". But low car count, plenty of track to go around, and seriously excellent heads-up blue-flagging negated conflicts.

Here is video from the Saturday Morning (Race 1/2) ITR/ITS/ITB/T4 race:

Starting third in class (3 ITR E36s in front), I got a good start to lead most of the race.
.
2nd (Jon Farbman) and 3rd (Richard Bennett ) stayed very close behind me every lap.
.
All 3 of us threaded the needle between two lapped ITB Rabbits (see video starting at 8:37)
.
Then we came upon Dan Flynn in a lapped ITS Datsun 240z (see video starting at 10:39)
.
I tried to set a pick, but was pinched off on DL before the uphill, all 4 of us very close through downhill.
.
Then the 240z bobbles at the apex of the downhill...I thought it was going to be a real 4 car disaster!!!
.
Got on the brakes to avoid, no contact, got by him, almost scraped Farbman as he and Bennett passed me
.
The 240z ends up tankslapping and goes off DL (see mirror)
.
I was unable to catch up as our times were so very close, and so I finished 3rd
.
Congrats to Jon Farbman on a great ITS win!

Here is video from the Saturday Afternoon (Race 2/2) ITR/ITS/ITB/T4 race:

Started second in class (3 ITR E36s in front)
.
Travis Washay (Yellow ITB Golf) gapped the start and didn't get caught :)
.
With Travis between us, Jon Farbman increased his lead
.
The rest of the video is rather boring, except in the mirror
.
Richard Bennett stayed within striking distance the whole race, and on the last lap tried an outside pass after the uphill
.
He couldn't make it happen though, so we finished Farbman/Lawton/Bennett
.
Congrats to Jon Farbman on a another great ITS win!

Abhi,
Thanks for posting the video. My go pro stopped as I was getting in the car which is very unfortunate as the race we had up to the contact was the most fun I have had so far in the car yet.

What I thought happened at contact is not what is on your video. I had been watching you push wide on most turns post apex. I thought that if I could duck inside, beat you up the hill I could use Dick P to box you in at west bend and drag race you to the checkered. What I did not count on is how much my car would move drivers left when it got light at the top of the hill. It moved much more than normal because of my speed and line. Lesson learned. Please accept my apology, I feel horrible about damage to your car. It is unfortunate that such a great race resulted that way.

I am glad we had a chance to speak on the phone to clear the air. I look forward to getting on track with you again.
