Trying to enter via MSReg, seem to be having difficulty. All it's letting me enter is as a worker...? I see there's other folks entered so I know it can be done...?

Should have a good strong contingent of IT7 cars entered...

Ok, Motorsports Reg > me. I cannot see where to select an event to register to race. All I see is worker registration. I'm stuck.

Someone want to try it, see what they get?

And by the way, it's listed three times on MotorsportReg; I'm assuming one of those is the school.

It appears as though with the new contact impound, and Jims attitude towards other competiters not in his class, We should probably have a bunch of forms Pre Printed for us:shrug:

And another thing, Jim is really fast Right up till he flies off the track, and then the motor blows up. Just sayin

Still not seeing how the 7s are a rolling road block for a car that obviously cant stay on track by itself, and spits so much oil out it explodes a few laps later.

Dont throw stones, if you dont want boulders thrown back Jim. LOL Just kiddin dude. Dont get mad. Tell Kelly I said Hi.

Sign up as an instructor using the "worker" function. All those guys "can" sign up as on-track instructors, but the chief instructor has a handful of certain folks he prefers to use and will pick 3 or 4 of them; the rest will be trackside observers.

Interesting weekend so far. Unfortunately, Andy's car took a hard hit in G2 exiting the oval. I was kinda busy through there myself, so I couldn't get a good look, but it appears the driver (a renter?) went in backwards just out of the oval, requiring a trip back to pits on a rollback.

In morning session, not one but two sand filled barrel barriers died a valiant death...in pit lane. Two different incidents. Lots of of cold, lots of wets, and a fair amount of broken cars. Track is really slick.

StephenB
05-25-2013, 07:55 PM
Uggg always bad to hear about wrecked cars...

Stephen

StephF
05-26-2013, 06:56 AM
Unfortunately, there's going to be a bunch from this event. I have never felt the track this slick. In some places it was like they mixed diesel fuel and water and spread it across the surface. What was weird was that I heard of the two incidents with the barrels in pit lane, one split a formula car in half. All I can think of is that standing water pulled the cars into them as they came off track.

BruceG
05-26-2013, 08:36 AM
Steph....didn't they recently run the 24 hrs of LEMONS at NHMS. Must be like driving an oil well around the track!

dickita15
05-27-2013, 05:36 AM
It was odd the track in the rain was slick in place where there was normally good grip like in the bowl at 6.
By the way the IT-7 drivers led by the J B Swan were the race chairs and although the cold wet weather cut into the beer drinking the dinosaur wrestlers did a great job on the parties and food. JB actually accomplished something I thought impossible; he made the IT 7 guys socially acceptable by the powers that be.
Having a group do step up and do the race chair job was a big help for the region. Any other groups want to take on the challenge?

The unraveling exhaust insulation was unrelated. It appears there was a small fuel leak in the engine compartment that eventually found an ignition source. All fuel and oil lines were intact.

But then again I have only raced in the rain a handful of times before, so what would I know ?

Denise:

We were together for quite a bit of the 2nd ITA race on Sunday. You're right--it was good clean racing and I had a blast!

I've got the video uploading now and it should be at http://youtu.be/NktM98IyriM when it's done.

This was my first race weekend with SCCA, and it was certainly a real learning experience for me. I had varying luck with starts, and need to work on them for sure.

If you watch right after the blue RX7 pulls off on fire, it looks like there might have been a pass under yellow in front of the turn 5 flag station.

Jeff... welcome!...glad you are racing with us!!

If you move the GoPro down a little we won't be trying to look under the mirror in the vid

The no passing starts "6.1.1.B ...from the flag until ..." and I stepped through the
video a few times until I was convinced that Denise had gotten just ahead of you
by the time you both reached the flag

nice race!

I agree with Glenn. The integra gets a run on you After the incident at 3 but Before the standing yellow at 5 for the parked tiger. The double yellow isnt seen till the tree house at 8

Greg Amy
05-28-2013, 10:50 PM
I agree with Glenn.
Ditto. I think she had you before the station 5 flag. If you look up ahead of that, you'll see that Brad Bray *just* didn't make it past me (red IT7) and had to back off.

And do move that mirror up. I kept finding myself trying to duck under it to the see the action.

BTW, we got much entertainment while sitting in the Dunkin' Donuts, when you drove the ITA race car in the drive-through window...kudos to you!

- GA

jwasilko
05-28-2013, 11:06 PM
This was my first outing with the gopro...definitely need to get it or the mirror moved. I also need to get it hard-wired for power--it was dead for the first ITA race and died again later in the day.

I appreciate the analysis on the yellow flag...it's all learning for me.

I'm going to try to keep the Miata street legal for a bit longer...my wife is driving with COM and doing autocross, so it's handy for it to be on the street. It's also easier to get it thru the drive-thru than the hauler :-)

The first STx/SSM race from Sunday is uploading and will be at http://youtu.be/Nc6C7n8D17M when Youtube is done with it. The 2nd STx race will hopefully finish overnight and will be http://youtu.be/-AVceMhKdxY .

Because you are a new guy and for those playing along at home, I agree that the pass at 5 was likely legal under the letter of the law because the no passing zone is from the flag to the incident. Remember however had that been a double yellow it would have been not legal because when you see a double yellow you need to assume the whole track is yellow.

lawtonglenn
05-29-2013, 08:11 AM
true enough ...but that makes me think of an interesting situation

say car A and car B get through a turn, and immediately after a double yellow is thrown...
then car B passes car A immediately after, before any line of sight to the next flag station

technically that pass was under double yellow and illegal, but (assuming neither driver has a radio)
neither knows if it was legal or not... (if a tree falls in the forest yada yada yada)

in fact, any pass made on a lap that goes double yellow is suspect

Ed Funk
05-29-2013, 09:11 AM
A pass between 1 & 2 when the double yellows don't show up until 6 would certainly not be suspect. You been snortin' too much rotary exhaust?

I would say it is not enforceable unless there is a reasonable expectation you could see the flag, just don’t try to say I was racing back to the flag.

No, it's not pre-mixed. They pour the oil in the tank after filling the fuel tank.

PS. you can see BJ's crash just behind my rear view mirror. My suggestion would be lower your head relative to the screen to get a better angle.

OK that might have happened. But at least we had premix in it.

Nice job. And nice job to Abhi!! He was driving like a mad man!! it used to be the braking zone on the inside down into 3 was always slicker than the outside, counter to the "rain line". I don't know if it's the bumps or if it's still like that.

And good job not hitting anyone......... or did you edit that out??

You should use the rain line on the exit of the bowl and in the left hander onto the straighaway.

When you get past those EP BMWs and catch up to me, you can see the difference in our lines. I was getting the power down sooner.

Also I started driving harder when you caught up to me. I got fast lap of the race on that last lap when you were chasing me. :)

Yeah, Abhi had a really good rain line. You let a RWD beat a FWD in the rain?!? And if you could have caught Abhi, you could have hit him....gotta catch 'em before you can hit 'em.

Thanks Jeff! Abhi knew where the grippy lines were. Braking zones at 3 were tough to tell. Seemed that there was grip on the outside line which helped apex the barriers. There are LOTS of bumps at 3 still. Track should probably fix that. No, I did not hit anyone Jeff. The only damage was to your ego for not showing up. :)

For a tech guy, you can't format HTML to save your life. Or you don't care to. Probably the latter. I will look at the last lap again and re-evaluate. I know I screwed up the turn at bowl 5, late and no grip, and 9, with too much braking. I will say it was a great race with the EPs eventhough they slowed me down for sure. I was frustrated as I had to lift often coming out of 12, up 5-6 and into 11. I didn't get too aggressive with the south oval until a few laps on Sunday, too little too late.

Some ah-ha moments... should have, could have removed my rear sway bar. It was set at full stiff and my tire pressure gauge has read 4 psi too low for perhaps over a year now. It then dawned on me why I am going through so much rubber on the front tires in the dry and still seemingly slow and yet overcooking my tires... f@#k. Also, front chamber is at -0.6 and rear at -1.3 degrees. I can only lower the car so much before it bottoms out or it's below the 5" min. I refused to bend knuckles as other drivers do yet it's technically illegal. I guess I will need to threw money at off-set bushings.

mickey - who is hoping for another rainy race so to seek revenge.

Mickey and I both made a New Years resolution not to hit anybody, immobile objects or each other. So far it seems to be working.

Great pics and video guys.

Not illegal; I do it on starts, too, if I get forced down. Just seems like Sandy likes to do it as a habit.

Problem with it, is that as you come around to T2, that apron goes completely away, and suddenly. You either have to be clear of traffic on your outside, or you hit the end of the inside wall. I don't advise using it unless you REALLY know what you're doing... - GA

Race results are done by Linda as she does most all T&S in the Northeast.
There is a lot of work to be completed before she can post official results and it also depends on what other events she may be working.
So, please be patient, they are coming :-)

This is spot on - and I will add that if you go down there and someone is to your right, with the line to their left, the person below the line will have NO PLACE to go...and are they expecting racing room when they 'come back on course'?

I would only do that if I was making a pass into clear air...otherwise you put a lot of cars in danger.

Last of my videos from NHMS. It's from Sunday PM race when the IT7 caught fire with almost a 9 minute FCY. I did some nice gravel surfing at turn 9 and ended up adding a few marbles to the track, oops. Odd part of the race besides my crappy driving was that the #9 Miata seemed so fast for a few laps and then... poof got slow. Twice when he was coming up the hill, he slowed very much; once in front of me and passed him and once behind he was battling with Brad. Missed shift? Car going bad? no idea. The same Miata almost ran into Ahbi at restart lap at turn 5.
