Looking to upgrade the dampers on our Mk1 GTI this winter. I would appreciate any feedback on what others are happy with. I also would like spring recommendations to get me in the ball park. Best place to buy would be helpful also. Open to used items if someone has something in decent condition.

Thanks in advance.

I have been pretty happy with Advanced Design dampers from Ground Control.
Others have told me they were pleased with re-valved Konis.

I have been running 550 front and rear springs, started at 550/375, and will be testing with higher rates next year. The AD shocks have threaded bodies on the back, and they offer sleeves for the front strut tubes.

If you are running a welded diff, don't be afraid to try a front swaybar. Make sure that you have a brace between the lower suspension points in the front in an A1.

Mike Ogren has a very informative ebook on VW and fwd race car setup. Look it up for sure.

Koni 8611's probably the best bang for your buck you can get.
